Turbo VS Supercharger

I have thought about this abit and I think a turbo would probably be the best for an offroad rig of the H3. I don't want to suck alot of power from the I5 witha supercharger, not to mention I don't think it's underpowered offroad at all so I just want more HP when I need it. Anyone have a different opinion, or any plus and minuses of both?

not one person has an opinion?

We tend to keep our opinions to ourselves here. I'd say supercharger, with no real basis for my answer. Maybe you should get some nitrous oxide, I hear when you huff that **** while driving, everything seems fast.

Off-road a supercharger due to immediately low end torque and HP. On-road (highway), turbo. Remember the turbo does not add until around 2K+ rpm, and you aren't climbing mountains at that high of an RPM unless you are riding a clutch.

A good example is the Duramax 6.6L which I have been playing with lately. At and above 2.2-2.5K rpms, this engine jumps until it redlines in the 3k+ range.

So basically you're thinking that the H3 mostly needs help on the highway instead of offroad. In that case, the turbo would be more appropriate for you, especially considering the s/c's parasitic drag.

I like the instant torque of a s/c better than the delay and whine of a turbo. The latest generation has a lot less drag than earlier models too.

I concur that a SC in this application is more appropriate than turbo.

However while on the topic, I am not sure of how well the I-5 engine is in taking high psi intake methods. Reliability is certainly a huge consideration. In this type of application, nothing can replace displacement. That's probably the better solution for your torque needs.

No, that's GM's issue. PS, mine's been fixed for a couple of months now:D

The turbo has the potential to give you more power, but it takes a lot more engineering. In fact, both take some engineering. Plus, if you want reliability, you really need to lower the compression ratio, which will hurt mileage and low end throttle response.

Neither unless you can live with exploding I-5 motor.
