reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I know this has been already discussed but I can't find the information that I want in previous posts... basically I want to level my h3 and I've been told that if I use the reindexed torsion bar keys the ride would not suffer at all... have you guys tired those reindexed torsion bar keys before?
Do you know if they really make a difference or should I just go ahead and lift the front by doing the torsion bars without those bar keys? Here's the link to the ones I want to buy: |
Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
i dont know what those things are but i did two turns on my existing tortion bars and the ride is level, comfortable and best of all was free!

Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
Just because they are for the Canyon/Colorado, does not mean they will work for the H3. I would guess that they won't.
Most parts for the H3 have nothing to do with the Chevy/GMC platform. .02 |

The guy that is selling them told me that they are the same (they already installed those in a hummer h3)... so I'm sure they would fit, my question is... do they work? or should I just rise the front without them? Thanks! |

OK, well, then if they DO work. I would do it. I have mine turned 3 full rotations. There is a little bit of loss in ride, but it just rides more like a truck. If they DO work, per "DeLeons" recommendation, I will try them as well:D |
Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
I raised the front end on my old Blazer ZR2, and the extra tension killed my upper and lower ball joints inside of 2 months.
How is the front end of the H3 set up? Could the same kind of thing happen? |
Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
Is the ZR2 IFS ir Straight Axel?
|
Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
It's an IFS, and that's about all I know about it. The H3 has an IFS too, but I just wonder about wear on the front end.

Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
There have been a ton of threads on these things. Some have expressed the same worries about the ball joints, others claiming no problems.

How many rotations did you turn yours? That's what I want to do.. level the front and put a set of 35" Toyos... I will turn the torsion bars, what I want to do is if the reindexed keys would take some stress out of the suspension parts (ball joints, etc.) Thanks for your replies!! |
Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
decide if you want to just go 2 turns like i did or 3 turns like Bebe a little more extreem . mark the side of bolt and washer with small dot make your turns clockwise and stop when dots are lined up . front wheels need to be in the air so jack up the front , the adjustment bolts are right under the rear seats if you are laying under the truck facing up . get an alignment check after a couple hundred miles , this allows the bars to settle some .
the indexers are a waste of money |

i think bebe is correct we are heavier than them lil trucks  |

Do you turn both of them clockwise? and how much does one gain from giving then 2 turns clockwise? |
Re: reindexed torsion bar keys.. do they work?
yes both clockwise . i got about an inch and the 35's get you another inch . people that did three turns got about 1 and a half inches  but each truck sets a little different . just turn both the same amount dont worry about making them even . most seem to have a little less travel on drivers side . mine did before and after . its no big deal :D
