Does the Cobra use XM Traffic for it's traffic info? I have XM Traffic and it is nice to have. Got to make sure they have coverage in your area though. BTW, toys are looking good :) |
Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
Really nice toys. I like the PIAA look in the photo's. Have you used them or are they bling?

Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
Very nice Bully. I'll have to take a closer look at that GPS next time.
On the lights, it looks like they just drilled thru the BG. No tabs? |
Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
Sewie, Yes, they just bolted it right through the bar. The had to order brackets for the H2 though.
EDT, so far I have tried the lights but I have not "used" them yet. Some light off road driving at night to test em out would be fun. They actully do make a big difference so far. |

Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
Only place Garmin excels over other GPS units is in their hand held devices (such as the 60csx) that use the SiRF III GPS chip. For onroad use, where the SiRF III chip is not required for almost instant coverage under almost any type of condition, any of the units made by Magellan, Lowrance, Cobra, etc., are great. Most of the software comes from one of two sources.
The on road units can be off by quite a bit, but they are programmed to show location on the closest road. The hand helds are where you need extreme detail and there are NO roads to lock onto. So, nice setup on the cobra. |
Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
Here's the product detail for the GPS units I was comparing:
Cobra: http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=...ct_id=442&id=1 Garmin: http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap378/index.jsp The site says the Cobra 4000 is 799 retail. I got mine at Circuit City for $699 and then a $100 mail in rebate. It's also available at circuitcity.com |
Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
For the Cobra, it states there is no need to download maps from a computer. Is there a PC connection? If not, how do you upload map updates?
How is for revising routes using via points? |
Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
actully, yes there is a PC connection. It's a mini usb port. And I happen to already own one of the cables. I do however have to find an adapter to plug it into the wall. I have wireless interent w/ my laptop, but it would be easier to update the gps in the house.
I will let you know when I update it. |
Re: GPS Cobra 4000 and Other Toys
And to be fair.. I also found this Garmin with a 7 inch screen.
http://www.garmin.com/products/sp7200/ It's also over $1200 |

If they do offer map updates, then the Cobra looks like a hell of a deal. |
