Engine clattering?
Hey yall I was wondering what was up with tmy engine clattering. As I hit the gas slightly I hear the motor ping a little bit as if it were low on oil or something. I can press the gas and release then hit it and hear it almost everytime. I have not called the dealer yet just wanted some insight on this first fromthe pros here...Thanks guys let me know....

Re: Engine clattering?
Havent heard anything like that -- if it is pinging, you may try a higher octane gas as a test, but it shouldn't be doing it anyway with 87 octane..

That's what I was thinking. Has this been happening for a little while? Could you have maybe gotten a bad tank of gas? |

While it doesn't always work, you can try revving the engine to 7000 rpms. Hold it there for 15 minutes, shut if off, and restart. |

dealer, now

Re: Engine clattering?
Posibly a bad knock sensor
|
Re: Engine clattering?
knock knock , Who's there ? bad sensor :D
not sure about your state but i put 85 octane in mine by accident when in Utah and had a slight ping . it went away with the next tank :D does your state have 85 ? |
Re: Engine clattering?
would a bad cylinder 1 exhaust valve cause this ?
|
Re: Engine clattering?
I live in Utah and use 85 octane all the time with no problem.

Re: Engine clattering?
I appreciate the help. I am about empty on the gas and I am going to put high octane and hope that is it. I didnt hear it today hardly so maybe it was bad gas. No NEOCON I am from NC. Thanks again....

Re: Engine clattering?
It has to be something computer related. The computer can adjust to what level octane gas is put in the tank. So if it is pinging that bad...I'd take it to the dealer......pronto stat!

Re: Engine clattering?
I would agree, it sounds like a bad knock sensor or the computer is having heart burn. If the computer can't retard timing enough to stop knock, it is usually a bad sensor, but it could be some really bad gas :D (in the fuel tank). If it is misfiring, the idiot light and message should come on, and then it could be a bad intake valve on cylinder one.
Good part of that is new cylinder heads are hardened to prevent any further problems, new procedure with a new tool, cuts the repair time in half.:D |
