Home security systems

Need a new home security system. Nothing high end since we'll be tearing this house down to build a new one. But also don't want the cheapies.

Really need one with 4 wires or less for the keypads, since re-running those wires would be a beyotch. Would like a hybrid wired/wireless but fully wired is fine since I already have the sensors.

I am wanting one an individual can install and does not need to be handled through an installer.

Suggestions?

Will you have it monitored? out here there are many companys who install complete systems (wireless) if you contract for a year or two with the monitoring company. I think we pay $30 a month.

I think they would/could tie into your sensors. If so I would go that route. The wireless suck. Batteries constantly die (regardless of what they tell you) and you'll get trouble codes at the panel.

The monitoring itself is sorta useless around here. I set it off one time and 2 HOURS later the cops came. But it's nice for the panic button for the wife when I'm away and smoke detectors are hard wired.

I know this doesn't answer your question :o but it's an alternative.

I already have central monitoring. They've been calling me today with low battery alerts, ac power failure, all sorts of stuff. I finally removed the system from the phone line so it couldn't dial out until I could get it off of A/C power and get the battery unplugged

Can you tell me how long you'll be having the alarm disconnected and when you're out of the house today? Do you stash your cash in the freezer? KTHXBYE.:p :D

Have you visited the "pets" thread in the H3 section. ;)

All the monitoring companies I've seen want you to use their system that is usually wireless and battery operated.

Our house is hard wired like a darned bank and it's monitored, though.
