Hi..Quick Questions
Hi. all!
I'm a long time Lurker turn Member, finally.heh Nice site! I should be picking up my 05 SUT on Monday. I have used the search feature and also called this website's store and my dealer (who said they were a Gobi dealer)about Gobi racks for this truck. I tried to call Gobi direct but the phone number was not good on the sight. My Questions are. From what I have read on this and a couple other forums is that Gobi racks are the Best for the H2 SUT.. Is this true? If not what other racks are available, besides custom? What do you think is the best package deal I could get buying the SUT Roof Rack for spare tire /w sun roof and the SUT Bed Rack as a one shot deal? Also.. Does anyone know what the differance is between the GHSUTTSR2, and the GHSUTTSR4?These are the model numbers from Gobi website. I read all the info and looked at the spec's.. All that seamed to be differant was the weight. Is one heavy duty and one light weight? Does the {4"} and {2"} mounting brackets change the height of the system? or is that the size of the mounting brackets at connection to the truck? I hope I don't sound Noob .. But I am to these trucks..I have used my resorces and not found all the answers to the rack questions. Thats for any and all resopnce.. |

I have the GOBI stealth rack on my bed (bolts to tonneau cover or bed rails). I dont know the PN's but I know they offer regular and stealth models. The stealth models have shorter sides and therfore a slimmer profile. I will get the roof rack on of these days as the SUT doesnt have all that much storage space for big camping/mountainbiking/canoeing type trips (I usually go with 3 or 4 adults). They are the best racks IMO. Try to PM Timgco on here, he works with GOBI for specifics. Good Luck with your HUMMER and welcome! |

Re: Hi..Quick Questions
The "2" and "4" refer to the mounting bracket height in inches in relation to the roof rails where the rack mounts. The lowest possible height using their system is a Stealth Rack with the 2" brackets.

Re: Hi..Quick Questions
Heh..I had a pretty good idea what I was getting into when I registerd.. I'll own being the FNG..For awhile
Well I just got off the phone with my dealer. Strange but true they are getting me both Gobi racks at over $500. less than the closest competition quoted me. Deliverd. When I pick up the truck on Monday I will make the final order on the racks and have them dropped shipped to my house..:D Now I guess my question would be about the mounting specifics of the 2 differant roof racks I am looking at. The dealers says the GHSUTTSR2 mounts to the roof rails and the GHSUTTSR4 mounts to the cross bars. Does anyone know the particulars on these 2 monting systems? Like pro's Con's of mounting on the rails or cross bars. I am pretty sure I want the GHSUTTSR2 rack so it mounts lower and the air dam will work better. But I dont really know yet. I will be on the road tomorrow for the drive to the dealership.. 1200 mile one way drive..:o Any info about these racks would really help. |
Re: Hi..Quick Questions
Using the longer brackets allow you to keep the crossbars on and the rack will sit just on top of them. The rack is still held into place by the rail mounts. Your dealer is wrong.
I've seen pics of trucks with the 4" mounts without the crossbars and frankly, the truck looks funny to me. I'd go with the 2" mounts. |
Re: Hi..Quick Questions
alt - 1200 miles one way. WOW! where the heck are you from?

Re: Hi..Quick Questions
Thxs Ken..Thats what I was thinking..so the 2" it is.
Dug, I'm up in the mountains of the high desert in NV..I was afraid of dealing with the 2 dealers in this state and desided to find an out of state dealer for my truck. Once I get it home im sure the drive will have been worth it...:p Well all , I'm on the road in the am to get my SUT. Thanks to this forum and all who post! With out this info I would have not been able to make an educated decition about this truck and its options. I was lucky enough to find this truck with every factory option other than (black leather) that I wanted in the colour I was looking for. So lets just say I'm stoked! Once I get the racks in, I will post pics of before and after the racks are installed.. Once again thanks for edumacatin me about the H2..:p heh |
