Light sensor on dash - help
 

Does anyone know where exactly is the daylight sensor for auto lights located on the dashboard ? :confused:

I want to cover it permanently, so that the lights are always on (required by law here) - so less hassle for me on the start up.

It the round circle on the dash.
I put a pack of cigs over it when its raining,I leave my lights on auto with the fog lights on.:D

Shine a flashlight directly into it, and the lights will go off.:D

I think if you unplug the sensor your head lights and running lights will always be on too.

Be patient, though. I think there's a delay before the computer adjusts the headlights on or off. This is so if you go through a tunnel while the lights are on, they won't turn on right away, or if you are in shade and come through some light, the lights won't turn off right away. Not sure the delay time, maybe 10 seconds?

I thought that H3 had daytime lights with switch in "Auto" position.:confused:

Eldave...yes there is a delay to turn on/off for tunnels and in cases where there are bright lights. I believe the delay for turning off the lights is longer than for turning on the lights (safety).

thedieter...yes, the headlamps are auto. The sensor signals the ambient light to the BCM, when the ambient light goes below a set level, the BCM activates the light, if it goes above a set level, it turns off the lights.

deserth3...unplugging the sensor MIGHT, set a code. The BCM monitors this sensor and no input at all might cause it to set a code to signal the sensor is dead. (I would have to look it up to verify.)

That?s right, but DRL?s are not enough, we are required here to have headlamps on all the time ( not that bad thing if you ask me - a motorcycle rider ;) )

Have always driven with head lights on all the time. Not just DRL. I like added benefit of having the tail lights on as well. Not many people pull out in front of me.

Studies show that having your headlights and taillights AND drls on during daytime causes more accidents and are soley responsible for children being born with tails and no belly buttons.

Don't forget, motorcycle riders immediately die when exposed to full headlights in the daytime, just like vampires!

I think also that the headlights will actually melt the plastic/chrome grill if left on all the time, thereby killing children, burning down houses, and causing widespread plague-like infections in 4WD drivers who were born on a Tuesday.

Gee, there was an entire thread devoted to how people pull out in front of H3s. I thought DRLs were suppose to fix that, along with make your rig more offroad worthy, stop road rage, help drunk drivers get to and from the bar, and end depression with the gay, festive lights. If two DRLs are good, I recommend putting ten of them on, along with a string of Christmas lights, in chase mode. More has got to be better! You just can't have too many lights.

People pull out in front of H3s for sport, not because they don't see us. Having 10 drls is just irresponsible, you make me sick. And I couldn't follow the rest of your post, but I hope those gay baby on board chasing christmas lights work out well for you.

I prefer 'Baby in Trunk' signs with the arm from a small doll attached to the rim of the rear door:D :D

Of course, studies show this causes excess driver distraction, more accidents, and generally overall leads to the degredation of society...:p
