who ever gets hummers to sell has to built seperate dealership buildings for hummers only, that hummer has designed. also each dealership is to have hummer test track. a hummer hanging from ceiling in show room. all mechanics go to indy for training and salesmen to factory for 2 weeks.......soft

There must be a timeline or schedule for going to the Hummer unique dealership building and test track because that sure ain't the case now.

If they don't even have enough Hummers for Hummer dealers, how and why would they send Hummers to Chevy dealers? My Hummer dealer is also a Cadillac and Chevy dealer and bunch of other makes in the same generic dealer building, all vehicles are mixed together on the lot.

Any dealer can get on the phone and get you other makes and pocket the difference.

Big Z 11-21-2002 07:02 PM

I knew select chevy dealers were getting the hummers, in other states. Now you can take your Hummers to any GM Dealer for warrenty work, accessories ect., so says a local GM service manager.

My dealer told me that if you were among the first to get the franchise right for Hummer, you had to build the dealership and track by end of 2004. If you were a Hummer dealer before, there was more leeway.

BigZ, GM does NOT own AM General, GM owns the HUMMER name and rights only.

Big Z 11-21-2002 09:33 PM

Ya, I thought the same thing, and they did own the name Hummer, then they bought them. Check out rockcrawler.com (2003 Hummer H2 Technical Briefing). But you be driving a GM product!

I just don't know! I guess it's just a partnership with the H2.

The two nearest HUMMER dealers are both Chevy dealers. Made out my check to Pape Chevrolet. I wouldn't mind having minor things done by the local Chevy (not Hummer) dealer since it's a lot closer.

Texas Red 11-22-2002 02:06 PM

The Hummer H2 has come about as a partnership between General Motors and AM General. Though GM is overseeing the project, the H2 is built in a brand new plant in Mishawaka, Indiana by AM General. In fact, the new plant is but 150 feet away from the plant building Hummer H1 models.

And don't let anyone tell you the H2 is built on a Tahoe frame either, cuz it ain't.

Tex, I think you are right, everwhere I read, including business magazines, they are very clear that GM does NOT own AM General.

Yep, I see the add for a new Chevy/Hummer dealership. Just like I bought at a Cadillac/Lexus/Hummer dealership. I'm not sure that means every Chevy dealership will be trained to work on Hummers. Just those which are also Hummer dealers.

I read where they started by awarding 150 franchises for H2 dealerships, most of which were already Hummer (i.e. H1) dealers. Many of these are same-site dealers for other vehicle brands.
