Steps vs Sidebar Questions

I recently purchased an H3 after driving an H2 for the past 3 years. The both have the tubular sidebars (GM#17800464) installed. On the H3, they appear to be higher than they should be as it makes the step into the cab of the H3 awkward. On the H2, they seem to be in the right place. They are installed level and correctly on the H3, just does not work with my height I guess.
I am thinking of pulling them off and putting on Removablue Assist Steps (GM#12498473). Does anyone know if these are a bit lower to the ground, which would seem to make it easier to get in and out of the H3 cab. Plus I understand that they can be used with the GM Rocker Panel protectors whereas the sidebars can not. Can anyone verify this?
If someone has the GM steps, would you mind measuring the height off the ground the top of the step is? I can measure my sidebars for a comparison.

Thanks.

First of all:

Define sidebars, and which steps are you referring to (tubesteps, u-steps)?

Removable single steps vs tubular nerf type bars.

OK, yes tubesteps suck. Remove them. ;)

The GM U-steps only work with the rocker protection I believe.

I took off my chrome tubular assist steps and put on the rocker panel protection. Then bought the Removable Assist Steps (GM#12498473). The removable assist steps are slightly lower, I like them better.

You have to have the rocker protection to use the Assist Steps GM#12498473. Lynch Hummer even states this on their accessories website. Hope that helps.

Yes it helps. That is exactly what I am looking to do. I have seen where the rocker protection really works on my H2. I can't believe that you can't have the rocker protection with the tubular steps. Looks like about $460 plus shipping for the rocker protection (which seems pricey) and another $180 for a set of removable assist steps. Now if I can sell the tubular bar steps.

Thanks Westhillsat!

x2

As far as height goes, (with the Bidgestone tires) the bottom of the steps are about 13" off the ground while the top of the steps are at about 14 1/4".

Have any of you seen the new "Limited Edition" H2s, the 2007 models? They come with a very cool step that attaches to the rocker bar, but does NOT hang below it. The sales guy that I spoke with told me that he couldn't get them for me, as they "only" come with the limited editions... Does anyone know of the part no. for these, so know where one might get a pair? Thanks.
