Front End Clunk...Torsion Bar seems...
 

...too close to table....it seems mostly when i brake and hit a crakc in the streeet there's a clunk under the driver side.

I went to my frineds garage to do a fast checked for security reasons and he noticed that the torsion bar was to close to the table...which looks might be where the clunk is coming from.

Any suggestions? I had a alignement done 1-2 months ago and ihave 20"?mud tires on it....

What are you calling the table? Maybe you could jack up that side of truck and see if the torsion bar is hitting somewhere. Thats a start. doug

if there is any relation, im getting a weird clunk or noise coming from the front suspension when turning. Its really not that bad bt its noticeable. it mostly happens when im backing up and turning simultaniously.

I would suggest lifting the car up, perferably on a car/truck lift, and while someone is up in the truck turning the wheel, you see for any type of noises or rubbing marks...

also, its probably that the idle drops down a bit but sometimes i also get a weird crunch when turning as SOON as a i shift to R or D and try to turn the wheel. ALmost as if the powersteering gives out for a bit. Again, im sure its just the idle droping between shifts but i guess it wouldn't hurt to put it out there and see if anyone else experience the same thing.

I would guess sway bar links before torsion bars any day for the noise your describing.

ok.... "most common time.....when backing up and turning"

So the only solution is to go ahead a retighten up the parts you had mentioned?

Which one, if you could pin-point one, is the most common? I haven't offroaded yet, kinda hard to find rocks tall enough down here in florida!! Anyways, what would you recommend i should try first?

1. Loose front cross member bolts
2. Loose lower control arm bolt
3. Bad body mount (esp. ones at very front)
4. Skid plate bent and snagging on cross member
5. Loose bolts on sway bar connector
6. Worn bushings on sway bar connector
7. Loose shock mounts
8. Loose engine mounts
9. Loose rear trailing arm bolts

You won't believe me, until you try this.

If it clunks in the front end while stopped (or barely moving), and turning the wheels left and right. It is the skid plate.

While parked, have someone turn the wheels while you put your hand on the plate. You'll really feel the plate thumping. The noise will be worse with the brakes applied. This is because it is putting a strain on the frame, and you will see the a-frame bushings actually streatch.

Take the plate off and it will disappear. Remedy ---put rubber washers on the mounting bolts, between the plate and frame.

Does the plate have 2 rubbers avoiding the torsion bar to hit it? If its that then from what my mechanic told me the torsion bar is hitting the rubber stoppers which is making the clunk....

Im going to the stealer this week to get it checked from them see what they say the problem is. Ill keep you guys updated.
