Full size pickup bed H2 in 2008
Read an article that the H2 SUT will have a full size pickup bed in 08, and the 09 will offer a 2 door with the full size bed. Sorry I lost the link, but can anybody confirm is this fact, fiction, or speculation.

Re: Full size pickup bed H2 in 2008
Wasn't one of the original marketing thoughts for the H1 as a vehicle for times when the capacity to offroad was needed in a utlility vehicle - i.e., an H1 pickup for ranchers needing to find cattle or oil companies and so forth?
I think that a hummerish pickup would be a really cool thing, with some possible practical value to people, but the higher weight of the H2 and lower load capacity would be problems. For example, my pickup weighs about 1000 pounds less than my H2, and has about 1000 pounds more gross vehicle weight, so its almost twice the carrying capacity. And i use that capacity or a fair chunk of it quite often. But, then, suspensions can be changed, and a 2-door version would be lighter i guess? Maybe they should just build a new hummer off the 3500 platform or something. |

The book also discusses Arnold and the hollywood begging-for-hummer, and how arnold got the first one (and the first H2, i think) and all that you mentioned. But the Humvee was meant by AMG to be civilianized before hollywood. And the H2 was a concept of AMGs long before General Motors as well - the concept of coming at the civilian market by hummerizing a civilian type vehicle rather than civilianizing a military truck (which they didn't think was working out that well), and they selected GM out of several suitors, after evaluating the GMT8000 platform and its possibilities. (i think all that is true and can look for quotes later in the day if need be). They just didn't have the money and eventually realized they'd have to partner up. |

Of course, it would be foolish to think the variants of the H1 were designed for our civillian use. They serve certain military purposes.

I wonder what a H2 Soft Top would look like?
Now that would be something different, and if they could design it to look an act like its older brother the H1. |
