Go-Kart steering
Yeah I'm a Newb.
I made sure the wife said "I can drive it fine". That was a standard 3. "I" bought the ZM6. Well my wife has the arms of a bird. So, looking into, 1. bigger S-wheel(not) 2. Tires($1K?) 3. Rack & Pinion(bingo, I think). H3 has 17:1 ratio. My reading says C/C have 19:1 ratio base. I bought factory service manuals for both marks and the R & P(and service) looks the same. Anybody else on the same page? Thanks |

More information without all the abbreviations might be helpful, along with exactly what your intent is.
I know I don't want to have to read something a few times to try and decipher exactly what a person is asking. |

The H3 power steering pump has a slightly higher High Flow rate than colorado/canyon but the same pressure relief setting - so the pump doesn't seem to be a problem. Isn't the H3's wheels moved out farther on the frame than the colorado/canyon? Would you need longer tie rod ends?? I don't know the answer to your question, just throwing out some stuff. |

I would agree with Chevy...it might be the tires more than the steering system. Colorado has small tires when compared to the off-road tires used on the H3.

Thanks Guys(Ladies if they're here). Sorry for the abbreviations, I'm used to another Forum.
Yes I understand the difference in the steering effort between the base model tire size and the ZM6. In considering the level of difficulty to remedy, steering wheel diameter would be super easy if somebody made a bigger one. I'm ready for "E" load range tires(except $$, inflate to ~60#s) using BFG T/A KO, like those tires better anyway. Good point that was brought up is the width of a Rack & Pinion, but even then maybe that could be hidden in the adjustment range of the rod ends. Bottom line, an R&P swap seemed the easiest and probably the least $$. It looks like I could get a 10% effort reduction with R&P swap from 17:1 to 19:1, if thats true. Thanks again.:D |

I think you're the first to have issues with the "tough" steering.
wouldn't it be cheaper to tell your wife to quit :crying: and drive the truck?:dancingbanana: Unless the truck has steering issues or she has a medical condition (than I apologize) she's got some issues. The H3 steering is not hard to turn at all IMO. Even when you air the tires down for off roading. If its that tough to steer, than how does she open the door to get in?:eek: |

I don't get it. My H3 steers and turns much easier than my old 4runner. And I barely noticed the steering difference between the base and adventure pkg during my test drives.
If it's really that hard to steer, have the dealer check out the power steering before you change out the rack and pinion. But I'm thinking the real problem is she just doesn't like the H3 (seat height, climbing in, visibility or something) but either won't admit it or doesn't have the heart to tell you. Telling you it's too hard to steer lets her off the hook and doesn't hurt your feelings. |

Get a steering wheel spinner( suicide knob) JC whitney has a nice one cheap that folds in when not in use,I have one on my 442 .Its good for slide/side spins and donuts.:cool: it has a open clamp so it should fit the H3's fat wheel.
