Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
I have been reading this site for a long time and find it a good source of opinions, facts, and information.
So, I am getting close to a point in time where I need to pull the trigger on buying an extended warn'ty. As I read these many threads I honestly do not see many problems with the H2. I fully expect those that have spent the money on one, to indicate you need one. But unless I am missing something, I do not see any history with serious or complex problems with the H2 across the board. My 2004 H2 has performed like a champ and I hate to blow $1500-2000 on something I do not need. Any one want to comment??? |

I know a couple of guys that have cashed in BIG by getting an extended warranty. I didn't get one.

Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
I don't have the warranty but when I bought my H2 off eBay, Square Trade gave me a free warranty for 3/3000 miles. I figured that was enough shake down time to see if anything was amiss.
Of course, I'm also the guy that just spent $498.00 replacing air bags that were rotted. There is enough expensive stuff to go wrong that a warranty for the right price is worth looking into. There isn't a one size fits all answer though since you've got to decide how long you're going to keep it, how you drive it, and most importantly what your risk adversion is. I like to work on my own vehicles and maintain them so I set aside the amount I would have paid for a warranty as a rainy day repair fund instead. |
Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
I sort of cringe every time I read these warranty threads since I didn't buy one. My brother in law runs three car dealerships and he vehemently discourages me from getting one. At the same time, I've seen guys get $1000s of free repairs with them. It appears that the people who DON'T wheel their H2s subsidize the off-road users.

Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
A warranty is gamble. If you never use it, you will be mad you bought it. If you dont buy it and everything goes in the crapper you will be mad you didn't buy it. It is one of those piece of mind things that only the future will tell you if you need it or not. So, do you feel lucky??

Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
The answer is yes!!!!
I had a miriad of problems before the factory warranty ran out. So far the extended warranty has covered 2 plugged vent valves and one front stabilizer bushing for about $400. More to come I'm sure. I bought the Warranties-4-Wheels 10 year, 125K, "0" Ded, for just over $2000 and so far they have been great! If you tell them Ric Hines or OMAHOG sent you they will give you a $100 discount. Enjoy! See link at: www.OMAHOG.com GMPP may be the best, but they are very expensive and don't cover as long. Ric |

Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
A guy in SoCal had his H2's rear springs replaced (early springs were from a different manufacturer, and sits lower), and his non-GMPP warranty is trying to reject the claim, since it wasn't a well-known warranty problem.
There is also the concern if you were travelling, and has a failure, and could not get to the nearest Hummer dealer (from whereever you are). With GMPP you can bring it into any GM dealership. |
Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
one question that i have about that is - will i still have any warranty? it would be within reason for GM to void my warranty at some point, i think.
if you're going to lift/chip/modify everything, and if those actions would void the warranty, better to save the money. also, i overpaid for my warranty so i'd recommend asking another dealer for a price and making your dealer give you a good deal. |

Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
I will be getting one before my stock one expires.
Warranty story: A few years ago I bought a new HD. (financed) The salesman asked me if I wanted to buy an extended warranty. Of course, I said no. He then told me that they had a reduced interest rate if you purchased even one years worth of extra warranty. (arount $700.00) I was amazed when they recalculated everything my monthly payment was about $5.00 less then it was without the warranty.:D I have used it one time to the extent of about $1,600.00. In this case, it has paid for itself. Tread lightly. |

Re: Do You Really Need The Extended Warrn'ty??
Bought mine, and with so may little things (Nav, Air Suspension etc..) GMPP with $0 deductible was a no brainer for me. Towing alone could cost a pretty penny.
