Front Differential AND Driveline

OK!!! It's my turn :p

Went for a test drive with the Shop foreman this morning.

I did not really get to talk to him later today, however, Miss LittleHotThang (love her) in Service told me they ordered an entire new Front Diff and Driveline.

I'm sure the driveline has to do with what was happening a month ago.The front diff carrier mount bushings were worn to the point that when I put the truck in drive there was a very loud clank.

When he tested it on the rack, he could see the driveline forcing the diff up.

So front diff being forced up by the driveline = new Front diff and driveline.

And yes the ring gear was toast!

yay Mee!!!!:jump:

I wonder if the carrier mount bushing failure is a precursor to the diff failure as my bushing is shot and due to be replaced this week but I've had no diff problems yet. I can't tell by looking at it that it's bad but my service mgr. said he could see the rubber separating with it on a lift and the tech in the cab power braking it.

F5 what do you think? If the diff was torqueing an inordinate amount because the mount was shot could that cause a ring gear/pinion failure...

My front Diff is leaking. Also the BAND button on my navigation is wearing. The N is part of the D. Do you think they will cover that on the warranty. Im tired of brining this truck in every month.

Trying to remember, but didn't mine look like yours?

I have been wondering that myself.

It all depends on whether or not the pinion angle is changed under torque. and if the degraded bushing causes it.

Curious.

Could be a Chicken and egg question.

Re: Front Differential AND Driveline

I talked to the tech about it this morning. His diagnosis was that the pinion gear was jammed into the ring gear causing the damage (at least on mine).

Take a look at the pic I posted on the other thread.

I saw it... I think he should check the carrier bushings....just for good measure.

Neo has had his replaced.
