I'm new to the forum and a 2 month H2 owner. I would like any feedback I can get about the different tire carriers on the market. The bad, the good and the ugly. Thanks

Welcome ccexpress

If you use the "find" capability to search for previous threads - you may find your answer.

Agree best bet is to search but I also think your choices are limited.

Basically have the rear bumper mounted one like SMA and the clones. The only other option is roof mounted with rack.

bumper mounted is easier to get to than roof. Tire is very heavy so roof is surely a two man job. I think there is a company that makes a rear mount that has a built in lift. Other than that there's not much to it.

If you go bumper mount install it yourself. Very easy and saves you a bunch over dealer markups. Just remember to grease the hinge and keep it greased.

Hope that helps

The SMA Tire Carrier on the back of my H2 save my ass in a auto accident. I was hit by a drunk driver do 60 MPH right into the ass of the Hummer.. The Tire Carrier held up to the accident.

Check out the auto accident picture, the Tire Carrier save our life that night.
SMA did come out to look at it that next day after the accident.

Thanks for all the input. I'm proably going to buy one of the bumper mount tire carriers, I am being a pussy and don't want to lift that tire up onto the roof.
Nice accident pics, Ouch. Hope the ass that hit you learned a lesson.

Does anyone know what kind of rear tire carrier the new SUT will have? It looks different from others I've seen.

You might want to check out H2OGuy's rear tire carrier. His is offset to the right to give you a better view out ot the rear window. Also, it locks open:

I am buying his grill guard.

Something esle to consider is the locking mechanism. Try and stay away from the "Pins" as I have read here they tend to rattle.

Go Gobi!!!!

The tire carrier on the Stealth Gobi Rack is my DREAM! What a neat set up!

I would however have to take the tire off to get in the garage. I would just put the tire up there for off-roading, and leave the tire home while in town.

After doing some research I went with the tire carrier from H2 Outfitters. See the details in my earlier thread. It's perfect for me and I couldn't improve a thing. Here's the link to their website and you can buy it through Jason.

Hey Zazing,

How many inches does your tire set back of the Rear Bumper? I park my H2 in the garage and am conerned about my rear clearence. I have about 18 inches from the rear tire to the garge door when its closed.

Zing 11-30-2003 03:16 PM

I think that'll be enough but let me measure and get back to you.
