Not sure -- but saw this:

Re: H2 Plant Layoffs Looming?
Too bad they can't start feeding another model through that plant. I'd like to see those guys stay busy!
|
Re: H2 Plant Layoffs Looming?
I hope they hold off. With the drop in fuel prices we should see some kind of bump in sales.

Yeah, right. Like, you know, they could, really, just, like, you know, just start feeding H3s through there, like really.:twak:  |
Re: H2 Plant Layoffs Looming?
Well considering the UAW workers get about 90% of their pay guaranteed during a layoff along with full benefits, I doubt they care much.
My buddy who works at Fairfax LOVES shutdowns and layoffs, he goes into full home improvement mode whenever he has the chance. |

It would be nice if it was possible to scale the factory to produce another vehicle, be it a Hummer or something else. I imagine H2 sales will never pick up again, even after a significant redesign, unless they start getting over 22MPG. So, eventually, they're going to have to run something else through there, or face bigger layoffs or closures. I don't think GM is going to continue to play nicely. |
Re: H2 Plant Layoffs Looming?
Looks like you were right on the money and the guy in the plant that was interviewed was a janitor that was trying to sound important

Another GM vehicle would be what I was suggesting. Something on a similar platform.

Re: H2 Plant Layoffs Looming?
They said on the local news tonight that they are going to lay off 150-180 workers when they start back up in November.:crying:

Re: H2 Plant Layoffs Looming?
I should probably know this -- but how many people actually work there? what percentage is that? It sounds high...

GREAT IDEA!:perfect10s: :perfect10s: Now let's think about this  ...what GM vehicle would require the least Plant re-tooling? Ahhhh ... got it ...the GM TAHOE would be the perfect vehicle!:clapping: And only minor changes needed on the main gate sign; take down M E R and put up H O E and presto, there's the HUM-HOE Plant! :jump: |

I think they said 900 today. |
Re: H2 Plant Layoffs Looming?
Yea, I just found this from the chicago tribune: "The H2 plant employs about 600, down from its peak of about 1,000 a few years ago. "

:iagree: Do it! DO IT NOW!! :jump: :jump: :jump: I imagine, if built HD enough, there would be a ton of these being used for towing large trailers and pehaps smaller goosenecks. The horse show crowd would really buy them! They spend A LOT on trucks. |

Can you just shut the fuck up? Just stop. Stop making comments. Everytime you post I'm amazed at the depths of ignorance you are willing to display for no apparent reason. A freaking lifted truck is not made to tow trailer. Do you know what lifted means? wait.... are you familiar with what a truck is? |

FWIW:popcorn: : Believe they were referring only to the hourly (UAW) workforce. As I recall the high water mark for ALL AMG H2 Plant employees (salary + hourly) was 1170 back in mid-2002. That figure does not include rent-a-people and GM paid personnel assigned to the H2 Plant. |
