spring shackle skid plate again

2 Attachment(s)
I found this picture somewhere and have searched several forums looking for the info on it. Does anyone happen to know where this is? I have looked at the Amstar and may have to go with that. I need something to show my fabshop to start with and then go from there.
I of course could not wait and have already nicked the edge. A near miss of the shock. This is mine on a Superlift trail in Hot Springs Arkansas.

That is the Amstar one. Notice the rock rails with the solid red skid in the picture. They should be showing up at dealerships now, but of course they're overpriced. Should be pretty easy for a fab shop to come up with something similar.

I thought this was the Amstar. I dont know where that other one came from. Im still looking. It looks like it would protect things if you roll back on those big hills.
I finally ordered the ones from Amstar thru a dealer in South Dakota since my local Arky dealership has no clue to what the rest of the world is doing.

They're the same thing. But the picture with scrapes was taken through a fisheye lens and looks distorted.

And from a different angle. ;)

I got a pair of the Amstar Skids and they are black not red!

They curve up in front and in the rear which will really protect the shock and shock mounting bolt.

Pictures when I get them installed.

What dealer did you order from? My dealer barely knows anything about the AMStar products.

email AMstar and tell them you are getting no help from the dealer. (It worked for me)
You can tell your dealer the part #'s are in the AMG system. If your dealer has done any business in H1's they gotta know what you are talking about. See part #'s and more info here:

Whoops - I didn't realize there were two threads going on this. Anyway, it was a painfull experience, but I got the skids ordered. Should have them in two weeks.

Am I missin' something here or are you guys just lovin' gettin' your wallets tapped? http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product?storeId=10101&Pr=p_Product.CATENTRY_ID%3A2 001043&TID=101&productId=2001043&catalogId=10101

Amstar's looney, seriously.

Are we sending a huge message that says H3 owners are easy?

I gotta measure, but HALF PRICE?

Seriously, five seconds on the search engine for "u-bolt skid plate" and even more:

C'mon folks, tell 'em stupid is as stupid does. Better yet, I'm making my own.

 that's Jeep stuff :giggling: (oh, I forgot, I have a Jeep too)

Other sources for shackle skid plates were recently discussed in this thread:

I think it was determined that existing products would not fit.
Someone was looking into fabrication but I haven't heard any news yet.
I think it was with these guys:

My point is this: Why pay double? Is Amstar using unobtainium? Titanium even? No. It's a ripoff. I understand that everyone's entitled to a profit but one thing's for sure, they're only worth what I'm willing to pay for them. Seriously folks, boycott this insanity, get the price normal. They should be $100 a pair, at most.

Can you spell Hummer? What's your point posting links to J e e P stuff? Yea that's great but??
Its not as universal as some may think. Unless someone has actually tried a cross over. Like really bolted one on. If they were all generic why are so many models listed??

I think even with the right equipment there is a hard way and an easy way. Im working on having some either laser cut or stamped. Im not sure how often everyone else torques their spring shackles but if its cheaper without the holes then so be it. Just building one set from scratch could be done with what I got but I was looking into an easy way so they would be cheaper, by the dozen??
Run right out and build ya some.

Won't be tomorrow, but it's gonna happen. It's not rocket science and it's not expensive. With the plasma cutter, it might take about an hour each, max. I can't EVEN imagine how cheap they'd be to make from an assembly line. While I'm under there, I'll make a diff skid too.

I would not discount the jeep stuff or FJ stuff so fast. Most later model springs are about the same width, and use the same size U-bolts. So get out a tape measure and do some homework, it pays off!

Better yet, do a spring over axle and a front SAS :perfect10s:
