Couple of new toys
Ordered a set of Staun tire deflators and no-loss NATO valve caps on Friday. Wheeling season is slowing down, but they may come in handy in the snow
Got the deflators off ebay for $55 shipped from down under. http://search.stores.ebay.com/Wild-Earth-Australia_staun_W0QQfciZQ2d1QQfclZ4QQfsnZWildQ20Ea rthQ20AustraliaQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftsZ2QQsaselZ1044 20875QQsofpZ0 The valve caps are from Mesa 4x4. $15 out the door and mailed the next day http://www.mesa4x4.com/dynamic/part_...num=EO-008-001 Also got a portable CB from Midland (model 75-822). It was only $85 on sale at Walmart but has 40 channels (plus weather) and 3 power packs for battery or car use. http://www.midlandradio.com/comersus...idProduct=3108 |

Re: Couple of new toys
CB is cool, thinking of getting one, and I like the mobile hookup kit they offer for only 30 bucks more.
|
Re: Couple of new toys
The mobile power adapter is included! Guess they list it separate so you can get one for a 2nd vehicle.

I got both of those. They work great:D Remember to check setting on deflaters I have them at 18psi. One or two were a little off when I received them. The deflaters are one of the few things that will fit in the door pockets.:beerchug: |
Re: Couple of new toys
I Bought that portable CB last year. Its a good unit. Broken down it fits nice in the console area. Lesson learned on it was the rechargable batteries get tired and need a good charge up B4 using or transmission is weak. Its a 3watt max to begin with and the 12v integrated plug in takes a while to bring it up to speed unless you use it frequently. :beerchug:

Re: Couple of new toys
I've got that Midland.. If you're going to use it with the car adapter you're going to have to mount an external antenna.. You can' power it from a cig plug and use the rubber BNC antenna..
I mounted a Firestik Firefly 4ft on the roof with a flip over mount and am keying an SWR of 1.1 (ch1) - 1.4 (ch40).. Range isn't but maybe 3 miles talking in town, but a 100 watt linear could be hooked in for $100 or so and stretch that on out to 10-15 miles out in the open.. I think Sewie has pics on his website of this antenna setup that he used on a Cobra handheld... Rob I went with the Midland because it can be used as a portable radio to walk around with if needed.. |
Re: Couple of new toys
I have a six foot red/white/blue firestick from my Jeep that I could use. Has me thinking.....

Weird, the manual says you can use the attached antenna (with limited range), but I was going to look into an external mount anyway. |
Re: Couple of new toys
So how do you like the Staun Tire Deflators, I'm thinging off getting a set and adding them to "What do you carry in your cargo door jack compartment".

Re: Couple of new toys
Haven't used the deflators yet, but they look solid. One of these days I'll have to try them out. They're factory pre-set to 18 psi, but you're supposed to double-check the pressure.
But the NATO valve caps are awesome. Got really cold here recently and I had to top off my tires. It was nice not taking the gloves off to handle the caps, dropping them when my fingers go numb and fishing them out of the snow. Definitely worth the $10. The threads seat well too ... high quality. |
Re: Couple of new toys
Thanks, I think I'll pick up both.

They definitely make it easier/quicker to air down. But you should check the setting on them fairly often as they tend to "adjust" themselves pretty easily. |
Re: Couple of new toys
Thanks for the advice, I sure hate to air down to far and lose a bead.

Re: Couple of new toys
I have that CB. It works GREAT!! I had a local CB shop connect a 4' Wilson fiberglass anenna to the rear bumber. I ran the cable up throught the truck and under the drivers seat and into the center console. Attached the wire to the external adapter on the CB and plugged the power in to the dash.
i recently used it on a trip with my club to the badlands. everone was asking me about my radio and could not believe that my simple little set up that tucks away in my center console sounded better than anyone! I was very pleased and the total cost of my set up was just under $150. I also bought my CB at Wal Mart. I highly reccomend this. |
