An H2 Hummer and an FJ in the garage????
Wifey wants to trade her vehicle in for a Toyota FJ instead of an H3. Having driven both for a few days, the FJ made the H3 feel "3rd World:shhh: :giggling: ".
Painful to admit but our first choice FJ is superior to the H3 in every way. Our second choice was the Jeep Unlimited Sahara.  I'll never trade in my H2. Bar none it's the best rig out of the box for a huge range of uses other than off-roading which is it's primary strength. I fear total honesty is gonna get me flamed. Sorry guys. It's not intended to offend. |

Dennis recently came out of the closet. That should explain it quite well. :shhh: |

Hey, throw a six-pack of spare differentials in the trunk and the H3 is every bit as capable as the FJ. :D :D :D
I still can't help thinking of Shaggy when the FJ talk comes up. That's why I can't get into them. :D |

Re: An H2 Hummer and an FJ in the garage????
It's understandable for some to be pissed off or shocked as to why I (Or most other members.) feel this way.
Being an H2 owner, driving an H3 to me clearly feels like a downgrade. Now don't get all fruity because I said that but there is a reason why the H3 is cheap. We checked out 3 rigs. Jeep Unlimited, FJ, H3. I would love nothing more than to have another H in my garage. The H2 and H1 is too much rig for my wife as she claims. And it came down to quality, reliability, and surprisingly.....looks. Let me quickly explain; Quality: FJ hands down. It's a Toyota. Unlike the H2, GM really cheapened out on the H3 IMO. Reliability: See above. Looks: It's still a unique looking rig. The H3 looks like an H2 but cheaper. And that's the hard truth. Not interested in a lesser rig that looks or tries to be like an H2 sitting next to mine. The power is a big thing. H3 sports one of the weakest engines around. And it's suppose to be a Hummer. As an H2 owner, I think it's an honest and very qualified assesment. FJ>Wrangler>H3 But that's just my opinion. |

Keep us up to date with how it off-roads over the next year. I would be curious to hear the honest truth about its abilities. Talking with other owners, none have taken it off-road, and naturally, I do NOT believe any salespeople who sell the vehicle. But I trust your assessment of its abilities. What color did you get? I like the yellow or the silver.... |
Re: An H2 Hummer and an FJ in the garage????
I agree on the interior of the FJ.
It seems that comparing raw dimensions that the off-roading capabilities should be rather similar- tho the weight of the H3 relative to it's size is an advantage- as with anything so similar "It's all in the driver.". That is all. |
Re: An H2 Hummer and an FJ in the garage????
My wife wants an LR3.....I'd take it over an FJ any day... :)

Re: An H2 Hummer and an FJ in the garage????
Obviously no one has seen a new JK perform offroad, but to already assume it's somehow below the FJ or the H3 is laughable.
Simply having a SFA with disconnects and lockers F and R quickly accelerates it off-road wise. It is certainly comparable to the FJ in the interior and blows each of the others away due to the simple fact that it can go topless. Obviously, from other threads, it's already known what I now think of the FJ/H3 comparison off-road. |

Re: An H2 Hummer and an FJ in the garage????
Having been in the position of having both an H2 and H3 in the driveway, I'd have to say, in my opinion, Dennis has contracted mad cow disease. :D
I find the H3 interior quality to be extremely high in comparision to both the FJ and the new Wrangler. I never really found the engine in the H3 to be lackluster, except when passing on country roads (which I do maybe 3x/month). I personally don't like a powerful, rip-roaring engine unless there's sporty handling to back it up (i.e., BMW X5). So the whole acceleration/power argument is a moot point in my opinion, and if you're really interested in an off-road vehicle, should it matter if you can go 0-60MPH in 8 seconds? I think the relationship of the torque band to RPM's should be of more interest. If you're looking for strictly a street vehicle, then avoid the H3. It's not designed for that use. Choose a Ford Explorer or the new GM Acadia/Outlook/Enclave CUVs, because they certainly have the power, and the latter models will have tons of cargo room, airbags, seating, AWD, and power along with 22-24 MPG. There's absolutely no reason to have an FJ, Jeep, or Hummer if you're not looking to use it off-highway. So I suppose we should ask, what are your intentions with the next vehicle Dennis? Do you plan to take it off the highway? Or is it a mall cruiser designed to ferry dry goods from the grocery store and back? No offense here, but we should just know what your intentions are. |
