Attempted Break-In

Well the H3 had a run-in with someone as they attempted to break-in to it over the weekend. They didn't get in, but they did a number on the door lock (it no longer works) and the paint around it.

Has anyone had to replace their lock for any reason or have any thoughts about the replacements? Haven't called the dealer yet, but will be doing that soon.

Man - what is going on in St. Louis? I see it was named this week as the most violent city in America.

Dunno about the locks as I haven;t had any trouble/damage.

But a mercury switch and a shaped explosive charge should repel further invaders!!!

Was the break in at your home or out and about?

I put a motion sensor, dual floodlight apparatus that scans the H3 parking spot at home. I am also seriously considering a camera. While I haven't had any vandal problems with the H3 yet, I did with my Explorer and I catch people walking through the yards every now and then..... :(

Sorry about the break in attempts. Lighting, motion activated, is probably the best you can do. Put a tilt/motion sensor in the H3, so if someone fools with it, the alarm goes off super quick. That would probably help too, even if it gives you just enough time to run outside with your shotgun and possibly shoot at the bastard.

Sorry to hear about the Damage. That does nothing but SUCK!
I am always weary of where I park, specificaly because I don't trust anyone.

As a locksmith, I would say you may want to check with a locksmith shop in your area to replace the door lock on the Hummer, it will be much cheeper then taking it to the Dealership.

If they did a lot of body damage to the area around the lock and a lot of paint damage then I would let the Dealership do it then.

That sucks man. Are you going to file an insurance claim? Get a repair estimate and see if it's more than your deductible.

I'm worried about theft and vandalism myself. I always park in the garage even tho I don't have an opener. I have to stop, open it by hand, drive in and close it. Kind of a pain, but worth it.

That happened to me in my driveway about 5 years ago to my 99 Tahoe. Looks like they took a screwdriver and tried to pry the handle/lock out of the door. Cost me about $350 to have the handle replaced and the sheetmetal area around the handle fixed and then painted. It was the dealership that did the work and I did not file a claim with the insurance (my wife likes to play bumper cars with her car, so I don't dare call the insurance people for anything!).

Re: Attempted Break-In

I like RuBher's razor wire idea :giggling:

BUT I can see why one wishes not to call the insurance company. They'll jack you for anything these days. But to be fair, mine actually tells me when I should or should not report soemthing officially through them - like when I hit the dumb broad this year at WalMart. It was her fault and my insurance company told me to try to handle as much through her insurance company so my deductable, accident forgiveness, etc. wouldn't be altered.

Her insurance company still held me 10% liable in the incident, basically for being there. I guess I should have died that morning or something.

I'm also really cautious with where I park. A couple of months ago, we parked the H3 and our Jeep (Grand Cherokee) out on the street in front of our home..forgot to park in the garage for the overnight. The next morning, when I walked out, the Jeep had been egged beyond belief. The H3 wasn't touched. I dunno .. a "Jeep-Hater" or a "Hummer Lover"? LOL. Took the Jeep to the carwash immediately and it was fine.
