Fuel Indicator ...

Has anyone gone low enough in fuel to ACTUALLY see the 'low fuel' light come up on the DIC? And, if so, does anyone know exactly how much fuel or miles are left to go until you run out on the side of the road?

I keep mine fueled up, but somehow I must not have been paying attention to the fuel last week and found it just about on the E Saturday morning. But, the 'low fuel' light was NOT on. I didn't think I'd make it to the gas station. I looked in the manual and all it says is when the light comes on, try to get fuel as soon as possible. (?!?!) Our Grand Cherokee has a monitor that tells us how many miles we have left to go fuel wise, and how many mph we are making on drives. It really helps, especially when on a freeway going through rural areas (L.A. to San Fran). Does the H3 have a built in guideline of how many miles left before the light comes on .. and/or how many miles before it runs out after the light comes on (if it does come on?)

I made a suggestion to OnStar that a driver be notified (if feasibly possible) when he/she is on the cusp of running out of gas.

It runs on E for a while,I once had the light come on then filled up shortly after and it took 20.2 gallons and when running E without light it always took less then 20 galons.
I would say light goes on at 20.gallons and theres 3 gallons left in the 23 gallon tank.:beerchug:

:iagree: there is about 3 gallons left when the light comes on. The H3 does not have the feature where it tells you how many miles you have left on the fuel you have. 3 gallons is plenty to get to the nearest gas station. I've been in the red many times. never actually stalled it.

When you made that suggestion to onstar what did they say?

My low fuel indicator came on three times with 2.5 gallons remaining each time.

OnStar hasn't responded yet. I reponded to an online survey they sent me yesterday along with the diagnostic report that had e-mailed me. I then sent them an e-mail. Hopefully they'll respond to it at some time.

Hey guys, thanks for your response!!! Sounds like 2.5 -3 gallons is the guideline for the H3. Whew! I'd hate to run out of gas with the Hummer and listen to all the wise cracks as people whizzed by me. :giggling:

My light comes on as soon as it hits the "E"... Where does it tell me how far I have to go. I normally go buy the trip odo reading, when it says 230 miles I know I am low.

It doesn't say .. that's why I had posted the question. Our Jeep tells us, but the H3 doesn't have that feature. So far the guys have said as soon as their low fuel light comes on in the DIC, they have between 2.5 - 3 miles to go before they are running on fumes. See fourfourto's response up above. :D

LOL. That's why I left Miami. Lots of things in the water ... be careful!!! RYD probably uses that excuse, too. LOL. :giggling: Ok, now that we know you're in Florida, we'll allow you a few confused moments.

Same experience for me, I've seen the low fuel message 4 times in 15 months.
