If you press it two or three times it should display the artist and song title.

Thanks.. Ok Here's the deal....

When the DVD NAV Radio Fires Up ...the "XM Info" Button is Grayed out and will not respond to the touch screen.

Now the Artist and Song title are displayed all the time when the XM boot's up after turn on. In other words ..it's allready in that mode.

How do you turn it off..?? If you go to XM options and turn of the Time out on or off it does not effect the Info button .The Artist and song title still remain on.

Plus .when I push the forward and reverse "Select" arrows and bring up a type of music...and then touch select in between the arrows..the select button greys out and it returns to what was on before in stead`of selecting what showed in the choice area..??

I think someting is screwed up ....What do you think..??:D

Yes ..to a point... the point being that I am not ready to NAV yet but have looked at the over view of the NAV unit.

I figured that the operation of the XM does not have anything to do with NAV other then muting when the NAV is In the Voice mode.

However The last statement is an assumption... since I have NOT read the Nav Portion yet. I am going thru the 490 H3 page manual first to make sure I learn anything new I might not know.

I spoke with GM Owner Assistence yesterday on another matter and we touched on the XM ..But he had no info on the problem I have mentioned.

If there is someting in the NAV section then That's where I'll go. So......
Please straighten me out here.. Have I F_ _Ked up and missed something about "XM INFO" ...

Just Thought about waht you said.. And went to the NAV ManualPage 62 and 63. Yes I did read this section and the Unit does not operate as per this discription.

The problem is as stated above in my other posts.. "XM Info" Button Greyed out not operational.

Title and artist on all the time...cannot turn them off.
Going to "XM Options" and moving the time out touch button has no effect on the Artist or Song Title...Remains on.

Dooooooooooooh..!!

Re: "TQ" WTF Is The "XM info" Button..??

Now you know why I went with an AVIC:jump:

Let me attempt to understand this and tell me if I'm incorrect. From the owners manaual:

"is menu allows you to seek or scan for stations
based on their category. Touch the On screen
button next to XM Info Timeout to hide XM?
information after a certain amount of time
has passed. Touch Off to turn this feature off.
While in this menu, turn XM Category Seek/Scan
on to scroll through the categories you want to
seek to. This option will take you to the first
available channel in that category."

It appears from reading this, without a unit to play with, that if you change the XM Info timeout to yes, eventually, the XM info will turn off on the screen. What the timeout length is I don't know, and they should state this. However, are you turning it off and giving it sufficient time to actually shut off on the display after exiting this screen?

If you haven't tried it, try it, and if eventually the XM information disappears, is your XM INFO button now not grayed out?

If it's not to late her I should also mention that the dealer installed the XM Module ..I don't know it that means anything or not but I'm sure you new that.

Ok... Thanks.. Some excellent points ther.. It might be me or what I like to call in the Pro Sound Business.. "ESO" ..Equipment Superior To opererator....

One other thing.. In the XM Options Screen.. looking at

"XM Category Skeek/Scan" There is a small "LOCK" Icon next to the word Scan.. It is Shown ..LOCKED Or inother words. a picture a a padlock which is locked. Does this mean anything ..??

When you move the Button for Seek and Scan To On Or Off The Lock Icon remains locked.

When I get out of work tonight at 8PM I'll try what you have posted...

Thanks ..

PS: I called XM and spoke to one of ther techs.. I might as well have called a butcher shop..I might have gotten a better answer then take it back to the dealer.

Same Crap.. Nothing changed.. Tried all the moves but Na-Da.

Called Onstar.. They turned me over to XM while I'm in the Rig . Went over the whole thing again with the XM chick... She had no clue either.

She said the NAV Radios bad..take it back to the dealer...Then she proceeded to try and sell me some XM crap music offer... I said no thanks and she kept on talking....

That's when I hit the Hang up button while she was still yapen and left the rig and slamed the door.:jump:

Can't see how calling XM would do you any good. They are interested only in their signals and selling more features. Have the dealer install a new one.

Gave every one a shot at the problem.. Covered all my bases. When I go back to the dealer for marker lamps and XM Whine problem I'll let them deal with the problem.

It would be nice to find some one here with the Factory DVD NAV who has XM turned on just to verify that these buttons do work. But I'll let the dealer worry about it.:D

Re: "TQ" WTF Is The "XM info" Button..??

VNV,
Also have the factory nav with XM. Never figured out the XM Info button either. I assumed it was like when your on the FM's...some FM stations broadcast data (ie. Station name, DJ, etc) that after a minute, it will not be greyed out and you can press the Info button and see that data.
I can tell you what the XM Category Seek/Scan (with the little padlock thing) does. When enabled, say you arrow over to Talk&Ent and hit select. Then the hard Seek button (not on-screen, the vertical one above tuning knob) will seek/scan thru only the Talk&Ent channels. When that option isdisabled, the Seek button just changes channels normally (like the tuning knob). If there is an actuall timeout on the XM Info, not sure what it is...I sat there just now for like 5 minutes and nothing happened. Will try to remember to check again when driving home from work.

Heh Trip Wire..,
Thanks for the reply..
That's funny.. the manual says nothing about using the hard key S&S buttons after pressing the touch arrows and then the select button on the screen. When you hit the select button after using the arrows.. the unit stays where the last setting was before arrow use.

So your saying if I move over to the hard S&S button the unit will jump to the selection I have just picked with the arrows after hiting select..?

So.. your "XM Info" Button is grayed out also..??

And is your XM System direct from the GM plant..or was it installed at the dealer with a seperate antenna like mine?

That's what I'm saying. When that scond option is enabled, you can use the seek button to go thru the difft channels for that category (Talk, News, Rock, etc) that you selected on screen.
Mine came with it from factory.
And yeah...my XM Info is always greyed out. I used to think it was for future use or maybe it functions in a difft vehicle configuration or something. Who knows. Oh and yeah....the documentaion on this Nav unit and XM are sketchy at best. I figured most of it out just by playing with it. :)

That's Weird.. you would think that after arrow key selecting ....and the "Select" touch button Lights up... that when you press it it would shift the unit to that selection on the screen.

So all it does is enter your selection to the Hard S&S button on the side.
That's "F" up...:D

Yeah ,, your right about the manual being "F" up also.. I wouldn't call it sketchy...:D

So.. Thanks for clearing this up for me. It means ..nothing wrong with the XM NAV unit as far as the Grayed out XM Info Button. Agin you would think that they would mention this button in regards to not functioning. All I have to do now is have them get the alternator to quick singen along with the XM.

Thanks..TW..:perfect10s:

VNV,
It sounds wierd, but when ya use it kinda makes sense. Let's assume we're leaving that option enabled. I on screen use right and left arrows to select a category, then using Seek button, it will go thru ONLY the channels in that category (like News), or if you want to just change channels you use tuning knob. It works with the hard keys cause there are no soft keys for tuning or scan/seeking. When option not enabled, Seek just acts like tuning knob. Not even sure why it is an option. Maybe people like to use Seek key to change channels as opposed to tuning knob? Not sure...LOL. But I leave it enabled and use it as above.
Maybe you were thinking that when you had a category on and hit select, the right and left soft keys would only go thru that category?
Radio took a little getting used to, but works great! Not an AVIC, but it will do! :beerchug:

What I thought was when the Categoty came up on the left..the "Select" key would go their and then you could tune within that Category with the hard Tunig knob. . Eeeeehh...!! ....Doooooooooh..!! Wrong.

:twak:

Anyway... I'll play with it somemore tomorrow. I'm sure the Pioneer has more to offer but I kind of like this unit. It does have it's draw backs like no input for Back up cam or DVD or on the fly NAV programing but..I'll make do for right now with my GM Product.

I'm a Happy Camper ...I'm enjoying my rig and all the GM gooodies.

:D
