$600 for offroad lights instalation?

Hi guys, just wondering if 6 hours of installation sounds fear to you to be done in a hummer dealer?
The guy in parts department said he needs 6 hours, around ($600) because he needs to drill the roof, dismount the dash, etc etc,
$450 of road lights + $600 work =$1050 for the freaking lights
not sure but looks a little "too many" hours.

damn, i dont know if its a fair price but it sure is alot of money. Why dont you just do it yourself and save that money for another upgrade. The install isnt too difficult, heres someone that did a great write up on it:

i installed the marker lights with a friend the other day.. took us 2 1/2 hours max.. and we had no clue what we were doing..

Granted you have to install the switch, but that could only take 30 min MAX!

Lynch told me 1.5 hours to install if they did them.

The guy works in Williamson Cadillac, Miami, Florida.
He doesn't know even the of-road lights exist.
I think that I should talk with somebody in GM and confront him
With some references in my hands
Thanks anyway guys.
About install the lights by my self, don?t know, too risky for my, is a lease.
Let me try a couple of ?political movements? first.
If anybody knows in Miami or near Miami (Florida) about any serious hummer dealer
Installing of road lights let me know
Thanks again

It's only worth it if you're willing to pay it.but make sure they use Mobil 1 and not conventional lube on ya;) dont want viscositly break down with the friction you will feel,(too many hours 1.5 to 3.0 is standard)

Williamson Service Dept is a rip off. I had them turn the tortion bars install my new rim and tires and allign the truck. They wanted $700 (my tires were already mounted and balanced all they had to do is swap them).

I bitched with the service manager and they did it for $385. Still high for 3 hours worth of work including smoke breaks.

What lights did you buy for the truck?

When I bought mine new, it had the marker lights on it. I wanted the Off road lights. Wright's in Wexford, PA. charged me something like $700 for the lights and the labor.

Get a quote from VERA HUMMER in Pembroke Pines. They are only 30 minutes north of Williamson.

Also correct me if I am wrong. If its a lease won't the lights stay with the H-3 when you turn it in.

RYD (miami, near metrozoo)

On a lease any aftermarket accessories can come off as long as they do not leave any markings or holes. I do it all the time. This also keeps me from spending alot of money on upgrades.

WOW!!! You should ask for a Kiss Too!!!:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

I just put 2 Piaa Light on the front of the H2 Brush Guard at a Off Road Shop.

Lights were Like $220.00 Labor Was $150.00 to wire then up,and 2 hours to do the job.

NOTE: The only problem was is that they damage my Grill On the H2 when they were welding the tabs to the Brush Guard. Now they are puting a new Grill on the H2 for me, out of there pocket.

Seriously.. If you can crack open a PC, add a hard drive, upgrade the processor and memory, you can do this.. It's all one step at a time stuff.. Not even any multi-processing..

As far as drilling holes in body panels.. I haven't looked at the directions close to see if it HAS to be done, but it's just basic stuff..
  1. Lay out the template
  2. Mark your spots with a dry erase marker
  3. Remove template
  4. Have a smoke or a beer while a friend puts the template back on to double check
  5. Remove it and put it back on yourself to triple check it.
  6. Make sure everything lines up the same 3 times IN A ROW before proceeding. If you have to lay everything down and start again tommorow with a fresh less frustrated look on things.
  7. Take a hole punch and a hammer to MARK a small dent for the drill bit so it won't wander off the mark.
  8. Drill a starter hole with a small bit.
  9. Enlarge the hole with a bit half way between the starter bit and the size the hole will end up.
  10. Finally drill the hole to the correct size..
  11. Spray a bit of WD40 on the spot your drilling BEFORE you drill and a little bit while you are drilling.
  12. DO NOT WIPE METAL SHAVINGS UP, they'll scratch the paint. Blot them and the WD40 up with a fuzzy shop rag.
  13. Once the shavings are gone, clean up the WD40 with soapy water or 409.
  14. If you're paranoid about rust, use touchup paint around the edges of the hole...

See..?? Simple..

Whoa.. Have they priced 'em yet..?? Was discussing the prices of grills w/ my dealer when a deer took out the chrome one on my H3.. $300 for it.. He told me to consider myself luck it wasn't a H2, they were close to $1500 since they are fiberglass instead of injection molded plastic..

Really it is.. I put a spoiler fin on my wifes RX-8 in about 45 minutes... Without having a clue what I was doing to start with.. Basically the same proceedure..

Think about it.. MOST of the cats working in body shops aren't exactly rocket scientists.. Typically if it hadn't been for the option of being able to go to a Vo-Tech school their senior year of high school they would have been drop-outs if they didn't flunk out for not being able to pass english, history or science..

Bet there's some of those guys here that are gonna flame my ass off for that comment.. Sooo... Lemme say this.. A friend of mine in High School was kinda like that.. Never did get his diploma because he couldn't pass American History.. Couldn't pass to get his GED and after 4 tries of that he gave up on it.. Worked his ass off at two and three jobs and by the time he was 21, he OWNED a car, 2 trucks, a 600cc Quad and 2 motorcycles.. 2 years later he BOUGHT a house.. No note on any of it.. Last I heard he's still getting along better than I am as far as income goes..
