Last Chance OnStar
Ok, OnStar sent me my notice to renew or it is being cancelled. Has anyone, anyone at all, renewed it? are there any deals out there at all for OnStar?
I have never used it other than than the monthly email reminding me that I have a H3. Suggestions? |
Re: Last Chance OnStar
I read somewhere, maybe here, that if you call them and tell them you want to cancel, they will transfer you to the cancelation dept. Then they will offer you I THINK, 149.99 for the year instead of the 200.00+ price.. I may be wrong.. Just seems like I remember reading that.

I've heard the same thing.. $12.50 or so a month rather than $16.50 or something like that... If you 've purchased any minutes you can convince them to roll them over for another year as well... Rob |
Re: Last Chance OnStar
I renewed mine. I've already used it to make calls in the middle of nowhere, to find out what's wrong with my truck so I could fix it and to get the closest tow truck to get me (Hummer paid for the tow truck, but OnStar made it convenient). It has more than paid for itself. The peace of mind alone is worth it IMO.
If you get rid of it, you can no longer say, fuck it, I've got OnStar.. right before you do something stupid. :D |

:iagree: I would renew it.. I have used it several times, As "D" said it is worth it for the peace of mind. |
Re: Last Chance OnStar
Its a great service and a great back up for regular cell phone failures. My onstar works in remote area's where no regular cell signall penetrates. I have kept it for the 2nd year. If you ever roll your truck and get pinned once airbags deploy they will call you. That would be one hands free call you would be assuradly :D glad to take!

Re: Last Chance OnStar
i used it for a flat tire once! Told em i had a flat. Some dude and towtruck showed up and changed it. Who paid for it i'll never know.

Re: Last Chance OnStar
I haven't used mine in the 1.5 years I've had my truck. But I renewed it just in case. Just one of those things I'd rather have when I need it. And I got a discounted rate when I renewed. I can't remember exactly how much, but I think it was $12.99/mo.

Re: Last Chance OnStar
Just fired the phone up last week. They gave me 30 Min up front ...and 100 min for $16.00 and change....total 130 Min.
As far as Onstar goes.....can't hurt to have it in an emergency.:beerchug: Go for that too. |
Re: Last Chance OnStar
I did not opt to subscribe. Sounds like it would be good for emergencies. Is it's reach any better than a cell phone?

Yes it is better then a cell.. Your talking Dish in the sky...anywhere in the world that a cell can't reach. Plus..your Rig is connnected to Onstar and all your rigs puter systems can be monitored. Onstar can detect trouble with the rig and notify you. Also they can determin how serious the problem is and if it can be driven to service or you should shut it down. Not to mention unlocking your doors if you screw up and have left the keys inside. Plus the rig emails you once a month and gives you a report on it's inards and puter systems. |

Actually Onstar uses regular old cell towers.. GRMS or something.. They use 3 or more cell towers to figure out where you are just like a GPS figures out your location via triangulation between three satellites.. So if you ever call them from a remote area and can only get signals from one cell tower, you better know where you are, because they sure won't.. FWIW... What you save on insurance for having an active theft deterant system (onstar, lo-jack, etc) will about pay for the cost of Onstar at $12 a month.. Least it does for me... Rob |
Re: Last Chance OnStar
I have a Verizon cell phone, and I've added the additional line into the H2 through the OnStar system, so for ~$80/month I have my cell and the H2 with 700 minutes to share... I'm very happy with it. Sometimes OnStar is a biotch when trying to saying the numbers to dial (doesn't like the 717 area code for some reason).
I've also used the OnStar for remote diagnostics (more than a few times), to find Hummer dealerships (you know, when you got without directions), for roadside assistance (free towing to your nearest dealership, 5 gallons of gas, flat tire change, etc. for $12-$17 month), and I like knowing it's there if I have an emergency or accident. I don't think you can go wrong. Plus, if you have someone who's wasted and won't stop pestering you to take the truck out for a spin, you can always threaten them with "I'll call OnStar and they'll find you if you take the keys!" :giggling: |

:iagree: I did the same. LOVE the hands free phone option and the peace of mind for $15/mth is a no-brainer for me. |
Re: Last Chance OnStar
I like giving the automated "Beeyoch".. the phone number to call. I just say 1 and the area code and the number all in one shot. The Beeyoch repeats it and She dials the number.
One of my favorite things is the "Name Tag" This is where you give a number a name and then just say the name of the person your calling and she hops too it. Had my buddy in the rig the other day and called another friend of ours. His name tag is..... "Dick Head".. It was cool saying...Call "Dick Head"..:jump: |
