Got 'er stuck

I was fooling around doing donuts and driving through the slop after a heavy rain, and managed to get the old girl stuck. Enjoy the pics. And yes, that is a Dodge Durango that pulled me out. At least it was a Hemi!

Thankfully I've pulled him out of some nasty stuff more than once...

35" Xterrains... Good tires in my opinion.

I haven't decide if or how high I will eventually lift it, so I may get 37s then.

   Keeping bling clean only involves sports cars and crap like that. Bling Hummers don't apply.;)

Please tell me you didn't use a CHAIN to pull your rig out?

I've always been under the impression that using a chain for such a recovery is not recommended, a) because it has no give, b) a single weak link in the chain and *snap*, and c) all the dangers of a snapping chain flying at you at 100mph. Yet, I've seen so many people doing it...

Good point. And that's a thin chain at that... :(

Nothing metal (except a winch line on a winch) should be used for recovery!

Yes, it was a chain. No it wasn't a good idea. And no, I had no other choice.

I left my good straps in my previous 4X4 by accident when I traded it in. I decided I was going to order some serious airline-type 50,000 lb. straps, but as you can see, I haven't done it yet.

I am going to do it asap, now.

We were very careful about using the chain. No slamming it. etc.

Just a nice slow pull.

I was surprised how well the Durango did. Once he gets it lifted and puts some good lockers and tires on it, it should be quite a truck.

And I love that Hemi. I wish my Hummer had the power to weight ratio of it!!

One thing you all will enjoy: A co-worker looking at the pictures said "You had a minivan pull you out????". I didn't have the heart to pass that on to my buddy!:jump:

Ah ok, but a good reminder to everyone, don't do any offroading without the proper gear, just incase you get in a tough situation.

50,000lbs sounds like overkill and might actually have a reverse effect when trying to recover a vehicle. 30K is plenty (3 inch wide strap), it's strong enough and has enough stretch to help in recovery.

It worked didnt it. Sometimes you just use what you've got.

I agree, I've used chain all my life-shxt they didn't have fancy tow straps until about 20 years ago. When chain breaks it goes dead-looses all inertia-whereas cable and nylon straps have the rebound effect . anyway I'm big believer in "Git R Done".

I usally use chains. I had a strap break once and it came back and cut the grill , radiator and fan belts in half. I'm glad no one was standing there or they would have been cut in half. I use chains now most of the time.
SOmetimes you need chain , like in this pic. :D
