Which Driving Lights
I am going to add a couple of Driving lights to my brush guard, and am I looking for input. I am looking at the following lights Hella 500, KC Hilites, or PIA 520. I have had lights on brush guards before that would start rusting and not hold up very well. I also want to make sure they are pretty bright and really add some extra light.

Re: Which Driving Lights
I've heard that the PIAA 520's are pretty good for driving and offroad, but are a little pricey. The KC Hi lites are good for offroad but are going to be blinding for oncoming traffic if used for driving, 130W. I have had the Hella 500's in the past and they are good for the money; 55W, sturdy design, good for both driving conditions, and only around $60.00. You are going to see a little rusting on black or chrome lights if you do not properly clean them often. I am using the Pro Comp Explorer Stainless 8"(a little big). I do like the look of the PIAA's though. It is all in preference. I know that some of the guys here in the forum are using the PIAA 520's, and like them (priced between $170-$230).

Re: Which Driving Lights
I have tried PIAAs and KCs and for the price, I'll take KCs. They last just as long and look just as good.
JoeDirt is correct, you can't drive on a city street with the KC long range 130W lights. |
Re: Which Driving Lights
Thanks for all the input. Looks like I will be ordering th KC lights today.

Re: Which Driving Lights
Question.. Wanting to slap 4 KC's on the roof rack.. Go with 130's or 150's..???
Or does anyone know of any AFFORDABLE 8 inch lights.. Could get by with just 3 of those... Would rather have 3 of the 8 inch lights perched on top... Rob |
Re: Which Driving Lights
i have the Hella 500 lights and I really like them for the money. I have the driving lights which are pretty focused and i'd like to try the fogs for a broader beam pattern. I wanted the piaa's but couldn't handle dishing out that much money mainly because they look better.

Pro Comp Explorer 8". They are priced at around $80.00 a pair for black or chrome on the web . You can also pick them up at 4Wheel Parts. |
Re: Which Driving Lights
Does anyone have any tips for routing the wiring for after market lighting? I'm pretty handy at doing vehicle wiring, but if anyone had any shortcuts they would like to share, I would appreciate it! Specifically, what's the best wiring route to get from the roof to power and where did you mount your switch? Thanks in advance!
