Tie Rod
Broke one of my tie rods on the H3 doing the Odessa trail out in Calico, Ca on Saturday night..It was the Calico clean up event that was gong on out there.... Ended up getting a long bolt to thread back into the lower end, cut of the head of the bolt and bent part overlaped the bolt to the straight piece of the tie road and had someone weld it up for me. It got me off the trail and back home... It's probably stronger now then the original tie rod set-up... They used two Peterbuilt truck batteries as a power source.. You could see the jumper cables jump everytime they started welding... Will post some pictures of the fix when I can... :excited:

Re: Tie Rod
WOW.... nice save Chas! :beerchug:
Don't know of any stronger after market tie rods we could get for our 3's do ya? I'd like to get a couple spares for MOAB just in case. :( |
Re: Tie Rod
I haven't seen any aftermarket TR ends for the H3's yet. But they don't seem to be as susceptible to breakage as they are on the H2. Just carry some stock spares and you should be fine.

Re: Tie Rod
These guys do a LOT of GM work, I betcha they'd make some up for a group buy! http://www.cognitomotorsports.com/

Re: Tie Rod
See if you can get these guys to make some of their sleeves to fit. These will help retain factory warranty more over replacing them with aftermarket tie rods.

Re: Tie Rod
What's the GM P/N for the H3 tie rod ?
|
Re: Tie Rod

Depends. They changed them a while back so there's two different "kits". Have your parts dept look up your VIN and they can give you the correct part numbers. |

And make sure to by the inner and outer (complete assembly). Some of the first ones ordered (me included) ordered in a "complete assembly" and only got the outer. |

Sorry... I didn't get the part # but my GM dealer said they were $64 & $92. |

Good point. A couple other folks did the same thing which led to a little adventure on Steel Bender when one broke and we had to go back to town to get the right parts. :OWNED: ;) |

Re: Tie Rod
Maybe you experienced offroaders could post exactly what you keep in your H3 when your on the trail. As far as trail repair parts, that is....what tools you keep in your H3 etc.

Re: Tie Rod
Can anybody post a picture of teh tie rod inner and out pieces?
Where do they usually break ? Where the male threaded outer tie rod end meet the female threaded inner piece? |
Re: Tie Rod
Moog has always been famous for great front end parts...
