Can you add a selectable 2wd/4wd transfer case ?
I have read that when people get a diesel conversion they get a selectable 2wd/4wd transfer case.
This would allow you to get great gas mileage in the city due to driving in 2 wheel drive. My question is can you and is there a selectable 2wd/4wd transfer case that would mate and work with our engines and transmission? say from a 2500 truck/suv? would you see any pros or cons to this set up? |
Re: Can you add a selectable 2wd/4wd transfer case ?
I think the H2 is a bit big for an 2x4 drive it just seems like it would be too sluggish and heavy for a 2x4 system. And you loose that feel of the 4x4 drive and on a suv of that size it makes a big difference. But good luck finding it, im sure someone out there has it.

Re: Can you add a selectable 2wd/4wd transfer case ?
I have had a few different autos with the ability to switch between 2 and 4WD/AWD. The difference in MPG is insiginificant. Like 1/10 or 2/10 th's of a MPG. The savings is so small that the Dealership said it's not worth it to keep it in 2WD. IMO even if you could do it I think you would never make your $ back.

i second that....been many discussions on here about doing that....putting on locking hubs etc....you are still hauling around the same weight so what is the advantage...not spinning a few gears and shafts....the savings in MPG wouldnt be noticable....and besides...if you buy a hummer you arent concerned about gas mileage.

The Duramax Power Train conversion consists of removing the stock engine, transmission and transfer case and replacing with the Duramax Engine, Allison Heavy Duty 5-speed Transmission and selectable 2wd/4wd transfer case.
