I'm thinking about switching over to the other team.

Well... One of the things ruined in the recent basement flood was one of my computers. So, after a little thought I'm thinking about switching over to Mac. Now, I always swore that I would never buy a product from a store that gives you a backpack for a bag, that is just at home in the mall as it is in the local gay bar, but I guess I could buy it online or something.;)
Ayways, what are the pros and cons? It seems like these days there are very little software compatibility issues, any insight? One of the main reasons I'm thinking about switching is because I really really hate how slow windows gets over time. I dont download anything illegally or anything like that, and still my PC is painfully slow. Do Mac's bog down like PC's over time? Viruses? Do they extist on Mac or not, I've heard that they do and that they do not. How about spyware? Is it hard to get used to the Mac OS. Enlighten me on this one guys.

After owning a Power Mac G4 for 4 years I can't imagine using, let alone owning, a PC ever again. In 4 years I think my Mac has frozen up 2-3 times and that was only because I'd totally overloaded it. Making movies is a friggin' breeze. Actually, everything is a breeze... except getting a virus.:jump:

Don't do it.

If you primarily use PCs, a Mac will be useless. You will end up using VirtualPC almost all the time and it will be slow. All that crap about Macs is not true, my powerbook crashed all the time, it was annoying. Virus... not many for mac, but how many have you had on your PCs? Software compatibility issues, yes... lots. Look up programs you use and see if it's available on Mac, if it's not Photoshop then probably not! Yes, they can get bogged down like any other computer.

I've used PCs all of my life and could not get used to my powerbook, I ended up running VirtualPC on it 90% of the time and pretty much using it as a wireless monitor for my PCs using vnc.

You can get a lot more computer for the price as well.

To prove how much Macs suck... watch when DRTY quotes this and can't even get my name to show up properly! :giggling:

There's a way to turn that feature on, but I'm too lazy to find it and like when your name is obscured.:fdance: :jump:

I dont really run any programs on my PC. 90% of the programs I do run are to try and make this POS run faster, which has all been in vain. The only program I run that I cannot (to my knowledge) run on a Mac is Napster, but I can hold on to my junker laptop for that and any other PC programs that I just have to have. If my computer could only have one sole purpose it would be internet. I guess I'll have to suck it up and force myself to go to that god awful place known as "the mall" and try one out for myself.

I'm running XP Pro and a can't remember having this lock up and I've never had a virus. It's been a long time since I've used a MAC so I won't bash those, but if you turn on Automatic Updates for the o/s and run a decent virus protection program you should be fine as far as that goes.

Even though this is like the old Ford versus Chevy conversation?..I?ll bump in.

Mac versus PC:

The big thing people always compare is virus/scripts/spyware type stuff.

But, it?s relative to scale??
If 90% of the world uses PC and Internet Explorer, then by a stroke of nature 90% of the virus/spyware/scripts are written towards PC/IE/Windows.

Don?t think for a second that spyware/virus/scripts are not written to MAC?s or Linux.
The other 10% are written to attack these platforms?..they are just not as prevalent in our liberal slanted media you read daily.

Like someone said above, leave automatic updates on, make sure your firewall is protecting you, run anti-spyware weekly, and make sure you have a good anti-virus program installed and you will never have an issue.
2 free programs I suggest these days are Adaware SE anti-spyware, and Avast Home Edition anti-virus. If you want to pay,
Windows Live OneCare is by far the best for XP, and will take care of both and has some extra features to backup/defrag/etc that are really nice.

Sit back, think, and take it to the bank in either case??..ultimately it?s your choice.

This sentence gives me a pretty good idea of why you are having problems with your PC.

We run Macs with Final Cut Pro as online editors at work and they have as many problems as the PC based machines.

I have to agree with D, on almost everything. MAC besides popular beleife crash lots and ltos of times unless you baby it. The PC crashes about the same as a MAC, when overloaded a mac would crash just as easily as a PC, its just that MAC users dont do much that requires so overloading, hehe, maybe they do.

The thing about Viruses, forget about that mith, might have been true once but not anymore, MAC will get viruses, they are not invisable machines and their code is not written by an imortal.

Software cabailities, big issue. You wont find out how big the issue is untill you get the MAC. Even simple software that you would think is universal is not there for MAC. I had a MAC about a year ago, for about 2 months, and gave it away as a present cauze it sucked so much, couldnt get any software for it, that i needed, only some gay video software.

I did like their user interface, but Vista is matching that rite now. Donno how much vista is an improvement over XP but so far it seems like alot. There will be patches and things coming out probably to fix small things, just like in a first year model car/truck.

My school just upgraded 7 of the 30 some laboratories to Vista and they are booked all the time, the XP labs and the 4-5 MAC labs are almost empty. I used Vista several days ago, and it is much faster at loading programs compared to XP, it looks better, and apperantly it is safer (for some). Viruses are nothing to worry about if you know how to protect yourself. On my other computer I have absolutely no antivisrus or antispyware program installed and have not received a virus ever. (I do an internet scan once in a while so that I know).

So my advise is if you have used windows, get a Vista Premium computer and enjoy, you wont be dissapointed. Im looking at some HPs rite now cauze im palnning on buyng too, and they are awsome.

I had to use a Mac for an art class I took, and I hated it... I would stick with Windows! -Easy, reliable, easy.
