Clean Air Colorado

So, my understanding is that CO has the highest emissions standards next to CA. Newer cars have to be thoroughly tested every other year in order to get tags. New cars are exempt the first time.

So, I got the first notice that the H2 needed to be tested. We usually dont keep cars this long, I guess.

Fortunately the closest testing facility is a mile away. I guess the "rapid screen" checkpoints set up all over town are worthless, because I drive through abut ten of those a month and it still made me go in for a test.

So, I pull up and they only have 1 dyno for full time 4x vehicles. That's a lot of cars with all the Quattros and 4matics, etc. So I wait in that line to find out that the H2 is too big for the dyno and they will have to do the pre-1982 tailpipe test. Please bear in mind that we have NO safety inspections. They dont check lights or brakes or anything, just emissions.

So, the H2 gave them a hard time. They couldnt get the equipment to register and I think they gave up and passed it, anyway. I was sure it wouldn't pass the dyno due to the exhaust "modifications" I made years ago. Well worth the 25 bucks, I guess.

Hey Adam. When we wheeling again???

Your lucky you arent in NY. Back in NY EVERY vehicle, even new, needs to go for an inspection every year for safety and emissions. Even when you buy a brand new car the dealer needs to do an inspection before you can drive it! All wheel drive vehicles are exempt from emissions as well as vehicles that are less than (2?) years old or more than (20?) years old.

Its a serious ticket for an expired inspection even if your car is parked in a lot somewhere you will still get a ticket if a cop sees it siting there with an expired.

Also, licence plates are a big deal. You cannot cancel the insurance on a car without physically bringing the licence plates to DMV. If you dont pay the insurance and still have the plates (even if you dont have the car anymore or its in your garage) after 30 days they revoke your licence! No joke.

Thats why i dont like NY!

Correct. Those who live at altitude are exempt from testing. I do not know where the cut off is but I have been in Summit County for 18 years and they do not require testing up here.

Adam.........for the "drive by" stations to work you have to schedule ahead a "date" that you are going to be driving by it and a time period....

In Texas, we just take it to the inspection station in the less scrupulous part of town, and when we hand them the insurance, we give them a Franklin at the same time...

Passes every time.

A few years ago, I was getting my Mustang inspected, and the guy sat down in the drivers seat, pressed the horn, which was the only thing not working on the car, shrugged his shoulders and put the new sticker on the windshield...

Isn't life grand...
