Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
Does anyone make a cold air intake for a 2007 3.7L H3? I do not see anything on the web. Can a 3.5L kit, maybe by Volant or K&N be used?

If the 3.7 setup is just like the 3.5 then the factory design is already COLD AIR. Trace the actual air intake and see where it originates. On the I-5 3.5 it comes from the Right Fender Well, not from the HOT AIR under the hood... |
Re: Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
My dealer didnt see anything K&N if your talking a filter only replacement, but found me one by a company called Airraid. Looks just like a K&N. Replacing the cover was a pain, so a complete intake might be easier down the road especially if your in heavy dust conditions where cleaning will be frequent.

The 3.5 and 3.7 intakes are the same.

I could get technical and say NO, they aren't. But, I'll be nice. What ducky is trying to say, and it is true on both, the actual air enters into the air inlet snorkel and the box from behind the inner fender. Thus, the air entering is about as cold as installing a cold air filter under the hood, where you do have a great amount of heat buildup. But if a person wants the cool look of the K&N dust sucker, then they do offer it.:jump: |

Re: Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
seriously, buy a K&N filter and throw it in. It will be as good as any aftermarket CAI.
Spend the other $60 stripping the chrome off:giggling: |
Re: Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
Well, I talked to Volant and they said that a CAI for the 3.7L will be out in a couple of weeks. I probably will just save the $300 and buy a K&N for $40.

Re: Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
The 3.7L's MAF sensor is different from the 3.5L's MAF sensor. This is the major problem with using a 3.5L intake on a 3.7L. The airaid just provides a new filter and a metal skirting that replaces the stock air box lid and I think is compatible with both the 3.5L and the 3.7L.

Re: Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
If one wanted to install the CAI, K&N filter and tube, I guess you just remove the old factory stuff, including the box?
Then the filter just sits open in the engine compartment. Isn't that hotter than the Snorkel inlet? It looks cool, but the factory tube and filter look just like the K&N design, only it sits in the box, which is covered and gets its air source from the snorkel. I'm confused! Does it really change anything? |
Re: Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
Yea... I'm retarded. I forgot about the MAF and the AIR pump inlet. Thanks F5. Either way, that snorkel is extremely small. However there is a lot of plenum volume on the intake system so IMO you would only really benefit from a CAI at high rpm's and not daily driving. CAI's on these things are freakin loud.

Re: Cold Air Intake for 3.7L
TrueFlow will give you the best bang for your buck for an 07. They replace all the crap from the intake to the stock airbox with a smooth tube, but keep the stock airbox to keep it sealed. K&N doesn't currently sell an 07 model, but they're looking for a truck to use for R&D for their 07 model. I'm working on a group buy on another form with TrueFlow. I'll try to post back here when it's finalized.
