Gonna Get My 3 Ready For The Off Road
As some of you know I picked up my 07 H3 Dec 26th 2006. I have the ZM6 off Road so I'm part of the way there. Last time I was off road was a long time ago in my youth and that was on a dirt bike.
Spent many an hour drinking beers and ride-en the trails. Ok..so Fast forward to 2007. After spending time here and reading and learning from you hard core off roaders:D ...I plan to get a set of rock rails and maybe the under body rails that GM HUMMER sells. What else would you guys suggest in the way of Chassis protection. As far as the rest of the stuff you need to take on an off road outing goes...I'll worry about that later. I was waiting for that Post people were talking about that would have all the FAQ. I guess it's in the making. It would be cool if there was a list for Novice's like me to know what to pack in your rig for an outing. I guess it also depends how your gonna use your rig..Hard core or trail cruzen... :beerchug: |
Re: Gonna Get My 3 Ready For The Off Road
You will be in pretty good shape with the side rock rails and underbody skids. Crawl underneath your rig to see what the low hanging points are. Soon they with be scraped and banged up so you will know what you were scraping on.
A tow strap, high lift jack, shovel, air compressor and tools are good to have. Take it easy at first so you can see what she will do. Experiment without the locker and see when you may need it and what difference it makes when locked up in the rear. Let the air pressure down on your tires to see what that will do for your traction and ride. Go with some other rigs and have fun! |

All good info ..thanks.... I plan on attending my Dealers Hummer Happing this coming August at Paragon Park in Penna.. I'm sure they have a Novice trail and instructors who will dish out some good advice to us new chassis bangers. The best thing is hangen out here with you guys. This gives me a leg up on does and don'ts. sure whish I lived out west near Moab or The Rubicon...Maybe in the summer 2008 I'll pack up my rig and drive out their and do Moab with the Black Squadron. That would be cool...drive 2500 miles to drive more miles...:jump: |
Re: Gonna Get My 3 Ready For The Off Road
Vet, I started selling Hummer when the H2 came out in summer 02. I had never off-roaded in my life. After going to the Hummer Training Camp in South Bend IN. I was hooked. I have been to 5 schools and 2 Natl. hummer events and learned so much. Some things you may want to concider is a video on off roading talking aobut off camber and aproach sugestions. Ask if the guides at the Hummer Happening if they are trail experienced and not just sales people. The stuff mentioned here is all needed at one time or another. Must have like Dan says, 2 rings for your strap (no wal mart) get straps and cleves that are rated so they last. The undercarrage protection is not a must have but is helpful. the rock rails are a must. a good air compressor (look for inflate times) no black and decker special. Never go alone, never take something risky without another truck there to pull you out and never go at night unless you know the area and have a friend. (walking out sucks) Get to know as many people as you can at the happing that want to go out like you. look for a local 4x4 group that is not brand spacific. I went out Saturday and the rush of 4 hours on the rail was like a drug. if you have any questions post or PM. The National Hummer Club is something worth checking into. all events are professionally staffed with guides and support from a dealer/GM/ AM General or both. www.thehummerclubinc.com i will be at Sadona AZ in may but that is probally way to far for you.

Penna has some beautiful area's..but I'm sure AZ and the rest of the western sates have a different flavor terrain. I'll get out there some day soon. Thanks again.. :beerchug: |

Some of the more important things that people don't mention are:
1: toilet paper 2. air mattress 3. hustler magazine 4. 12 volt ice box 5. hormsby's hard cider (applecrisp) 6. mp3 player (loaded with old rock & roll/50's & 60's) 7. company (good) |
