Crossover Rails
New (to me) 06 Hummer H2, will not fit in garage with crossover rails.
I can not for the life of me figure out how to remove them. (yes I read the owners manual) Can anyone help? Thank you. Allan |
Re: Crossover Rails
At the end (Back end of Hummer) of the tracks holding your roof rails, There are 4-5 inch tabs that you have to remove. Once this is done, loosen your racks and slide them all the way to the back where you can take them out of the track opening.

Re: Crossover Rails
The tabs are a real PITA to get out.

Any hints on how to get these out? Does the screw need to be removed? Allan |
Re: Crossover Rails
Had the same problem, just squeeze the tab in and pull up. You'll think that you are going to break them but they do popout.

Thank you, will try tomorrow. |
Re: Crossover Rails
leave it outside!!!!!!!!!!! its a hummer it can take the elements. But if not do what he said take out that tab the loosen them, and then slide em back till they come off. but if you have the air suspension make sure its down all the way maybe then you can fit in

I just don't want to have to scrape ice off the glass in the winter. The garage is heated, just start and go. :clapping: Thanks for the info. |
Re: Crossover Rails
good point didnt look at the location there, i dont live in a place where it snows, but i know from being on vacation that thats a pain in the back side to get that ice off

Re: Crossover Rails
I got them off, and the Hummer is now in the garage.
Thank you again for all of your help. |
Re: Crossover Rails
Depending on where your clearance problems, you might get it in with the rails intact. If its the framed door opening in the way, you're out of luck but if its just the garage door in the way, check the opener.
Most openers have adjustable potentiometers that set the travel limit maximums for the door to open and close. Remove the light bulb cover and look for small dials that accept a sloted head screwdriver, they'll be labeled with an arrow indicating direction. Most models have one for "up" another for "down" and a third for "force". Often the "up" limit isn't maxed out since for most vehicles its a non-issue, for the H2 however you're gonna need all the clearance you can get which means getting the door totally clear of the framed opening. |
Re: Crossover Rails
I am afriad my issue is the framing around the door.
I kind of like the looks of the Hummer without the rails, and as I have never used the rails on my last three vehicles that had them, I don't imagine that I will have to re-install them anytime soon. |
Re: Crossover Rails
ak,,,,, lookin to sell those rails?????? give me a price shipped ...... soft......
|
Re: Crossover Rails
I could use one of those rails to make a quick release light bar....let me know if you want to sell one!
Mine fits in my Garage but I had to trim part of the opener arm and it JUST clears the door by about 2 inch. --John |
