Removing gas cap tether

Just ordered a Stant locking gas cap from Checker Auto Parts. How do I remove the tether on my stock cap?

Pull & twist the entire black plastic assembly from the fender. From the back pinch the plastic lance barb and push it forward out till it releases.

I love those locking gas caps, I find 'em on top of the pump all the time!
