1St Oil Change Due....

Going in Thursday for the 3's first oil change. It'll just have 3000 miles since 12/26/06 when I roll in for the change. What really surprises me is that the motor has not even burned any oil..!!!

I have been checking the oil level at every gas fill up since new. It hasn't moved off of the Cross Hatch area. It's right up at the full mark. Unbelievable.....

I have never driven a Vehicle 3000 miles and not put at least 2 or 3 qts of oil in. This is all new to me. Even my new in the day 1986 Vette never went 2000 miles with out at least one qt of oil. And the GMPP ZZ502 BB in my 65 Vette which only has 2500 miles will eat a qt by then.

I picked up a brand new WIX Oil Filter also sold thru napa under there part number "NAPA 1522". Wix was one of the best in that thread about oil filters. Also picked up some Mobile 1 5W-30. So I'm all set.

Going to my local Gas Station for the Oil Change. I'll also get to look under and check out the 3's frame and suspension and drive line close up. The Mechanics that work there know there stuff and 1 of them is a Wheel-er and Knows Off Road Rigs. So I'm feeling good about standing next to them while they work on my rig. :D

I have been changing it every 6,000 with mobile 1 and at 6,000 the oils up at the full mark.:D It dont burn a drop:D

In a couple weeks at 30,000 miles Im changing to extended mobil 1 and changing every 10,000 miles.

It cost less to change it yourself with mobile 1 than the dealer will charge you for a regular oil change.

You could probably hold out until 5,000 miles, unless your oil life indicator is telling you its time...

Make sure all the bolts are put back on tight! Many owners have had the oil changed and then find out later that they are missing a bolt or two from the skid plates.

I think there was a post here ..Or..... Maybe I smoked to much crack and it was another forum. Some one put up a link to a site ware they tested a lot of oil filters and the wix came out as one of the best. Do a search here and see if you can find that link.

Or maybe someone has it and will post the link here.:beerchug:

The dealer has a bid sticker on the upper left winshield that says...Change oil @ 3000 miles. I think it's a good idea also since it all spanken new inside. Can't hurt... even though it could go the distance.

The main purpose of that sticker is to increase dealer service revenue. Vehiicles that burn oil are the exception these days and that's good.

Everything I have read shows the Mobil or the K&N filters as the best for filteing out small microns of dirt/debris. Used to be the Ultra Delco filters, but they are no longer manufactured.
I have changed my oil three times and I have 24K+ miles, and one of those oil changes was at 2K.

F5,

Question...

I see a lot of fellow 3'ers talk about doing their own service, mostly oil and filter change. Should there be a warrenty issue concerning the engine are receipts from (Pep Boys, Sears, WalMart, Advanced Auto etc etc etc) acceptable to GM for the purchase of oil and filter even though the consumer did the actual labor ?

I understand when a outside shop, not a dealer does the service and you have that service record

BUT..................?

f5fstop 05-08-2007 02:08 PM

Re: 1St Oil Change Due....

General rule is the manufacturer has to prove you did not perform the service. Keep your receipts for the oil/filter/etc., and you should be ok. Very easy to tell if a vehicle has had the oil changed.

Because the oil companies and the oil change shops are great at propaganda; and the fact many of the older people, my age, did have to get the 3K oil change back in the dark ages. But some take a while to adapt.
Now it is not necessary, but, better to change the oil sometime, then never to change the oil anytime.:beerchug:
