Good, reliable, reasonably priced shotgun...

I'm looking to get one in the next couple of weeks. I dont own any shotguns and would like to get one for camping and home protection purposes... I know there are some firearms experts on here and I could use some help.

Looking to spend $500.00

I purchased a Charles Daly semi-auto a few years back from Walmart. I believe I paid about three hundred+ for it since it was on a big sale. Been very reliable for skeet shooting (I don't hunt). Only problem is it keeps missing those damn clay pidgeons.:giggling:
You will get more recommendations....

Remington 11-87 Auto

Benelli, you would have to get a pump...$$$

Baretta Might be a bit pricey

Winchester

I would head down to a shooting range, or local store and have the guys help you out to see what fits you. Some places rent them, and let you try them out...

As far as reliability, I've spent a lot of money on various guns--but my favorite shotgun is still the Remington 870, which comes in a multitude of versions--the basic one is about $250 I think. I've hunted with one for 20 years, and it has never jammed once. Not sure how much the police versions go for, but here's one version:

Of course, what you really need is a combo gun, like this:

No, in such an unlikely event, I could just shoot a jeeper at 700 meters and then limp home in his/her vehicle. ;)
