42% Increase in MPG...
A few people have said it, but over the last two weeks I have tested it, and found a HUGE difference, just by adjusting my speed. All speeds were on cruise control and tested on I-25 between Fort Collins and the E-470 Exit (About 45 Mile trip).
Speed MPG (Highway) -------------------- 55 17-18 65 15 75 12-13 In Colorado the speed limit is 75, minimum is 55 on most highways. So...do the math: 12mpg to 17mpg is a 42% increase in Millage. Yea, 42% increase and all you got to do is go 55 on the highway. 42%!!!!!!!! Going 55 does SUCK BIG TIME, but for 42% savings with these gas prices do you really need to go 75 all the time? Ill stay in the right lane and do 55 until the fuel prices come down and enjoy my 42% savings. BUT.....once my supercharger goes on I think my driving habits will change a bit -)))) --John |
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
Owning a H2 has never been about gas mileage to me, so if I only get 6 miles to the gal. it is ok with me! To Hell with the leaf lickers!

Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
Ya, don't forget to factor in the difference in time it takes to arrive at a destination driving 55. Then possibly factor in getting an ass woopin for driving 55 in a 75. :jump:
H2 is a H2 baby...equal oppurtunity gas guzzler.. |
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
That's good to know. Thanks for your "research".

Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
In California most H2's are going 80+ on the freeway.

Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
If you get up to about 95mph you can drive over a prius and suck out their gas with the after market siphon ironically being produced by predator :dancingbanana:

Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
55mph = 17.5mpg
75mph = 12.5mpg 55mph = 1hr to go 55 miles 75mph = ~44min to go 55 miles 55 miles @ 17.5mpg = 3.1 gallons 55 miles @ 12.5mpg = 4.4 gallons 1.3 gallons = ~$4 @ $3.09/gallon It costs ~$4 more to arrive at your destination ~16 minutes earlier. Time is money, is your time really worth less than $16/hr? Mines not, that's why I drive 90mph. |
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
A speeding ticket at 90mph cuts in to your hourly wage:)

Don't get caught then! But seriously, I obey all posted speed limits. Luckily we don't have to factor in speeding tickets as the above examples were within in the legal limits. So there is your actual cost of going 75 instead of 55, about $1 per every 4 minutes saved. |
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
You can look at it that way, or just look at it as getting a 42% discount on gas. To me that looks good, cost $93 to fill up my H2 tonight, with 85 Octane gas.
Like I said, im not complaining about the milage, i love my H2 good or bad millage.....im just saying to the ones on here that complain about bad millage...stop complaining, you can get 17-18 if you REALLY want to. --John |

Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
With most of the old folks retired here in Florida, I am FORCED to drive 55mph and BELOW! Ages 65 and older, should be reevaluated before giving them another license. Just my .02.......Jamie

Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
johndjmix1 - You are right on. Today just for fun I was on the highway and reset my mpg. Cruise Control is key for me, the instant I even tap the gas pedal with my foot the mpg drops.
At 58mph I was getting 18mpg up to 19.1 for 10 miles. At 65 I was down to 14+/- The city driving is what kills us. Although I dont plan on driving 55mph all the time it is good to know in the event of a crisis. I am trying to use the cruise control as much as possible. I am not so much concerned about the cost of gas, its more of a mental thing for me. |
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
driving 55 = more time on the road to be pi**ed off by other drivers...
|
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
Keep the foot down and deep into the throttle.
|
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
Last month (normal driving): $1,149 on gas
This month (55mph max, easy driving): $585 on gas. Driving slow sucks, but with $500 in my pocket now i think ill pick up some high end off road lights =) --John |
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
DRTY and I travelled to Moab in 18 hours.
I spent over $7000US in gas for one way.:clapping: |
Re: 42% Increase in MPG...
did you get lost??? sounds like alot of gas...at 4.00 a gallon thats 1,750 gallons...if you averaged 6 mpg thats 10,500 miles one way.....:)
