Stupid traffic question ...
I was driving to lunch today and the right lane was blocked off with cones. Meanwhile the left lane was backed up through a traffic light, leaving the right lane empty for half a mile before the cones started.

Re: Stupid traffic question ...
I hate to see a stretch of perfectly good lane go to waste, so I always merge a short distance before the lane actually ends. It earned me (and a few other drivers) plenty of dirty looks tho. Two drivers wouldn't even let me in.
Why can't people use all the space available and then take turns. Didn't they learn anything in kindergarten? |
Re: Stupid traffic question ...
So you are one of those pricks.:mad::D
You merge when you see there will be one so there will be no "taking turns" and everything goes through smoothly. The only reason there is waiting and confusion is because we have to stick close to avoid cut-ins because we are the good ones and then finally hault to unwillingly let one of you pricks in.:fdance: |
Re: Stupid traffic question ...
:D
If traffic was moving smoothly, I would have merged as soon as I saw the cones up ahead. But in this case, traffic was at a snail's pace because of the stoplight at the end. Three open intersections and one other stoplight were blocked by this line of cars. If everyone had only filled both lanes and taken turns merging, it would have opened the light plus at least one intersection to cross-traffic. I think it's easy for people to get grumpy and jealous when they sit in line next to an empty lane, even though they could have been sharing the other lane too. It's fair when you share. Don't blame me if you choose not to :) |
Re: Stupid traffic question ...
But nobody takes turns.
I like it when the on the highway there's a merge and the big rigs block the merging lane so the "four wheelers" can't run up and cut in.:D |
Re: Stupid traffic question ...
I love blocking people who try to cut in line, but I mean like they go in the left turn lane when the right turn lane is backed up just to sneak right at the very last moment.
People who don't allow others to merge when it's a must and traffic is backed up are just asses. But I've learned... people will let you in if you are about to crush their car. :D |

True, and that's a big part of the problem. We aren't following the same set of rules. Minnesota (with other states) is trying to help people take turns by installing dual lights in construction zones. The lights use radar to sense traffic and alternates red and green to help drivers merge easily while using all available road space. Sounds good to me. http://www.dot.state.mn.us/newsrels/03/10/29merge.html |
Re: Stupid traffic question ...
The answer is e) I bought a hummer to ignore all forms of traffic manipulation. If my lane ends I just keep going. :giggling:

Yes, but just this once.:giggling: |
Re: Stupid traffic question ...
FWIW...I believe that traffic would run the smoothest if you utilized all available "legal" lanes of traffic. I have a tendency to move over as soon as I realize the lane is ending, but as long as the traffic in the closing lane is nice enough to "match" the traffic of the lane that doesn't end I see no problem with letting them in. Moving over sooner just causes that lane to back up sooner...I see no real benefit to it. But that is just my .02

Re: Stupid traffic question ...
I just accidentaly throw the switch for all the strobes I have to the on position. And somehow everyone seems to let me in. It either that or the Airhorns that makes them part the path for me...
:beerchug: Its wierd too, most of them think I am number one. They keep pointing one finger at me as I go by. |
Re: Stupid traffic question ...
Well I guess I'm an ass. Oh well, when people try and cut in on me they learn quick that I'll hit you for it. So far no luck, but I did force a couple off the road.
