Signal for sub amp...
 

hey all,

This all pertains to my 2007 H2 SUT w/Bose Audio and NAV.

I've been searching around trying to compile as much information as possible on doing a sub install.

I am going to build a small box for a single 10" and mount it where the 3rd seat goes. This is going to be a very portable box that I can "quickly" detach if need be.

My question: What is the definitive answer on getting a signal for the sub? Do I use a line level converter and tap off of the rear speakers? I don't want to have to tear apart the dash just to get a signal for the amp.

answering my own question:

I am going to get that PAC interface, bite the bullet and connect it behind the stereo... it seems like the right thing to do :)

That's what I run in mine and it works like a champ. You could also get a line converter and install it to the amp wiring just behind the rear stereo controls console in the back seat area. I ran it this way in my other H2.

what about using a line converter and tapping the rear speakers? are their problems with low frequency roll off?

i'm going to test it next week... those rear speakers are so damn easy to get too. i removed the rear panel in about 5 seconds :) i just have to see if they aren't high pass filtering frequencies to those speakers... usually the speakers have caps on them, but this is a bose system, so who knows.

You can just just tap into the Bose sub wires. If you do this there is no need to run a crossover. If you use the rear speakers you will need to purchase a crossover, unless your amp has one built in.

ok so i take it the rear speakers are getting the full signal from the bose amp. most mono sub amps these days have built in crossovers (or adjustable low pass filters).

it's just much easier to pull those rear panels off and solder to the speaker wires and run them to a line level converter then to the sub amp.
