FS: Hedman Headers
The dirvers side is brand new, and the passenger side is used.
I bought them new, but there was a leak in one of the welds on the passenger side collector. The weld has been corrected/re-welded. New, they were coated with "Jet Hot" High Temp Ceramic Coating. However, the re-welding process on the passenger side header has caused the ceramic coating to flake off in the collector area on this header only. Hedman ended up sending me a new set and I ended up only replacing the passenger side, so that's why the driver's side that is included is brand new. All bolts and hardware is included, but you will need standard header gaskets. Jet Hot will re-coat this one header for about $75 plus shipping. Ceramic coated headers run about $500-600 new, so here is a good chance to pick up a set that will be brand new if you choose to re-coat the single header. There is only about 50-75 miles on the one used header. After install, I noticed a nice increase in throttle response and mid-top end performance. It also enhanced the sound of my exhaust with a more robust note. These bolt right up to you stock-style exhaust flanges and are easy to install yourself by quickly removing the plastic fender well on each side of each wheel well to gain access to the bolts. PM me if interested. |

You wouldn't have pics of where the leak was, would you? I put a set on mine and have taken the left side off 4 fukkin times now trying to seal them. I can't find the leak... it's driving me nuts. I thought perhaps I had a weld problem and took it off checked it out AGAIN.... still can't find it. Thanks, Mark |
Re: FS: Hedman Headers
OC, the leak was on the collector. Go to muffler shop and they can use a stethoscope to pin point the leak. Might have to take header off to weld it like I did, then put back on to test.
Keep in mind that headers have thinner walls than OEM exhaust, so be sure what you are hearing is an actual leak. Not trying to say you don't have one, but they do make more noise than stock. |
Re: FS: Hedman Headers
Thanks Tomp,
Much appreciated. I've taken the header off about 4 times now. The first couple of times I thought it was the flange gasket. I used high temp silicone for exhaust to put around the gasket but to no avail. The last time when I took it apart, I noticed a small dark spot seeping out of the collector/exhaust pipe connection. I hadn't used any gasket silicone because it uses the GM o-ring there. Needless to say, it didn't help. Yes, I understand how headers tend to allow the valves and injector's noise to sound like it's got a leak. Mine is definitely a small leak and is proven when I step on the gas. Idling is hardly noticeable, stepping on the gas sounds like a singer sewing machine. One last question if you don't mind. When you say it had a leak on the collector... do you mean where the collector flange was welded to the actual header pipe? I'll try the stethoscope trick but it's hard since it really needs to be under a load to hear it. I wonder if I can get TTK (Tim) to hand on to the undercarriage to help me find it? :clapping: Thanks for your time, Mark |
Re: FS: Hedman Headers
OC, not on the flange but where the 4 tubes go into the collector itself.
Probably not leaky at the o-ring or flange but a bad weld job around collector. You should never need silicone and the oring is reusable unless you damage it taking it out. Ask exhaust shop if they have the stethoscope and have them put it up on the rack. Be real careful taking these on & off too many times as the heads are aluminum. Make sure to clean old gasket off and be careful not to damage metal surface doing so. Install bolts at about 11 ft lbs, start up engine to operating temp so gasket is pliable. Now tighten bolts in alternating fashion to 18 ft lbs with engine running. Also note that some headers will make a small leak noise when you first fire up the engine and last about 15 seconds. This should go away quickly after metal gets hot and expands. |

Thanks bud, much appreciated... I'll let you know what happens.
