Clunk noise over bumps
Whenever I run over a bump, such as a speed bump in a parking lot, at any speed over a snail's pace, I get a pretty loud "clunk" as the front suspension rebounds (extends after having compressed from the bump). I have my torsion bars cranked to level the truck, so could this noise be coming from the shocks, as they run out of extension travel?
Thanks, Pete |
Re: Clunk noise over bumps
Try shock extensions or longer Cognito shocks. Will make a big improvement in ride quality, if it doesn't fix the clunk.

Thanks for the advice, but I'd like to know first if lifting the front of the truck by a couple of inches via the torsion bars is enough of a change that you run out of shock travel on something as small as a speed bump. |

Would those not lift the truck to some degree? |
Re: Clunk noise over bumps
Not sure if it's what is causing the clunk. Might take it to dealer and let them take a look.

Re: Clunk noise over bumps
I agree that it's the shocks. Most shocks only have about 2 inches of "play" in them. I've had this happen on a Grand Cherokee I used to own.

Re: Clunk noise over bumps
Check your skid plate - make sure it's tight and there aren't any rocks wedged in it. Make sure all of your grease points are full. If it still makes noise have the dealer check all of the front suspension components.

my truck started doing the same thing after cranking the torsion bars. however, i plan on getting shock extensions or upgrading to longer shocks...hopefully that will fix the problem. |
Re: Clunk noise over bumps
When my truck did that, it was loose control arms. Check your upper and lower CA's and both bolts on each arm.
