My h2 and water
On the weekend i got into a pissing match with a friend and his jeep.
long story short we got a little competition going and the first event we choose ended up neither of us completing the water/hill. i added 37" baja claws to my rig. My question is, i had my truck in water just over the tires, should i be expecting problems? here's a link to the video taken.... http://www.badthumper.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=136 Truck was working just fine until today at idle i feel a few thuds? kinda weird...... any input would be great thanks...... Sorry but i cant stand the the jeeps better than the hummer thing so i wheel my rig to the extreme to show its capabilities...... |
Re: My h2 and water
couple of rules with water. If you comit you must blow and go not stop and go back and fourth. You caused the water to come back on you and get a little high. You may want to get things checked out.

Re: My h2 and water
Any direction on the things i should be checking?
on heard these two quick thuds...........all seems fine besides that... -check rear diff? anything else? |
Re: My h2 and water
37" deep water is pretty deep
I'd check the diffs to see if they have any water in them. If the do get the flushed and refilled. |
Re: My h2 and water
diffs or diff?
only have rear diff to check correct? Any quick way to check rear diff? |
Re: My h2 and water
thuds? where?

Re: My h2 and water
Com'on guys... Did no one learn from my mistakes...
When Hummer says 24" water depth they mean it. add an inch for the 37s... If the water comes in, which it will, it shorts out everything. One of the main processors is on the floor under the passenger seat. I know. I had water up to the seat cushion on the passenger side of my previous Hummer, an H3, and it shorted out everything to the point where my insurance company totalled it. Also, just for your info, if you are going to do this again: 1. hit the hill with some momentum 2. hit it a little to the left or right, then steer across it. You won't be in the holes that way. 3. Make sure you are locked and in low 4. 4. You forgot to cover the jeep with mud as you went by. 5. Why are you slumming with jeeps, anyway? 6. Don't publish your failures, only your successes. I want to see you make that hill, not puss out! :twak: :twak: Anyway, be careful. A dead Hummer is a terrible thing.... |
Re: My h2 and water
lmao!!
ok well i got no water inside, so thats a good thing.... I complete a task 90% of the time... just got a little timid on this one with the depth of water thats all... skid plate was hitting hard!! just for a piece of mind......i have already completed this water/hill last year... as for the jeeps........ill wheel with anyone! Hummerman always gives a good show!!!! Here is a good video of me working the humbug (my trucks name) real hard!!! http://www.badthumper.com/videos/parttwo.wmv Have several cool vids of me working this hummer hard!!! |

Swoffy
If you have 4x4 you have 2 diffs to check (front and rear) If you have water in them I would also check your trans and t-case. |
Re: My h2 and water
hmmmm........
well i got IFS on the front... its a H2 hope i dont sound stupid......but wouldnt the only diff be in the back? of course it i only have one............. dont confuse me.......i get confused easy u know..........:beerchug: |
Re: My h2 and water
Your sounding stupid bro, the big pumkin in the front is the front diff and they blow up if you pop your H2 hard. get both flushed at the dealer or if you wan tto go cheap a goo shop or Jiffy lube can do it just watch them to make sure they re-fill correctly. Your learning

more vids!!! That one looked like fun! Since you're into that kind of wheelin, I'd throw a set of HD tierods on there before you snap one in a mud hole!!!! Who's the ugy video'ing in your last link! You should have sprayed his a$$ with mud for the "Here's a HUMMER going to get stuck" comment. |

With the mud and water you've been running through, it's time to do it again. It's way cheaper than replacing those diffs. ;) |

Seriously? You don't know that there is a front diff? |
Re: My h2 and water

:twak: If i needed to know the parts list inside and out i would have bought a jeep.......:) :) :) |

When they are flushing your diffs (2) have them rotate the air in your tires too:) When gear oil is mixed with water it foams up and looses it's lubricating properties and can rust the parts inside the diffs.. Not Good. I try to stay out of water past the recomended fording depth |
Re: My h2 and water
Is it ok to rotate the air in the front tires with the back tires?
|
Re: My h2 and water
If water didn't get inside and you heard two quick pops after hitting the skid plate real hard chances are it was the rear diff touching down in two different spots. The front diff is covered by the skid plate, its the thing that makes the front axel turn, FYI. :)
