With the 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha, GM hopes this addition to the H3 model range will broaden this SUV's appeal beyond the hard-core rock-crawling crowd. It's a logical move and it's long overdue.

sellin more mall-crawlers :twak: :giggling:

H3 profit potential is weak compared to the H3 Alpha.:jump:

added 58 hp and 78 lb-ft ...Plus Cast Iron 60 Lb Diff @ $4000.00 More

$4000.00 Divided by 58 Hp =$68.96 Per HP ...

Or $4000.00 Divided by 78 lb-ft of torque =$51.28 Per Foot Lb of Torque

If you're serious about the dirt, an H3 Alpha is what you want. The V8 just makes it possible to live through the time until you can get it dirty again.

I'm not knocking the V8, but the only torture I've experienced between trail runs is Moab withdrawal. At least they made no bones about its offroad and town performance.

"And off-roading matters with the H3 Alpha. More than a third of H3 owners take their rigs off-road, the Hummer people tell us, and that's probably why the tractable inline-5 hasn't aroused more complaints, despite its anemic performance on the highway."

could it be the most wheeled civillian hummer model to date ??????????

i think so :jump: :jump: :jump:

Re: H3 Alpha - Edmunds Test Drive

I have been driving v8's my whole life up until I purchased this H3.
It isn't a drag race vehicle, but I have no issue or problem with the pick-up or the highway speed. Calling the highway performance of the I-5 "anemic" is a little harsh in my opinion.

So should I just go down to the the dealer and test an Alpha soon. When will they be available in California?

Test drive would be cool. Keeping what Ive got. Satisfied with the I5 for my applications. This V8 option will quiet some of the naysayers:)

Same here keeping the I5 for now. It's been a great truck for my needs in the first 2 years of ownership.

I agree the V8 option will be good to add to the product line.

who the hell are you?
and, no i don't consider what i drive a "turd"
there are many other vehicles out on the road that i would consider as "turds", but not the h3.
it has been funny, because most people just assume that any hummer has at least a v8 in it. most people are astonished to hear that they come with 5 cylinders.

i rarely get above 70 anyway, and that's really going dangerously fast around here.
sure is nice going 40 or 50 on the dirt though!!!! :fdance:

Not EVEN fast enough!!!!

Not sure about the Alpha for right now, I'm probably going to wait until the fervor dies down and the incentives begin, but I will have one. I'll wait six months or so and save thousands.

good for you!
if you saw the condition of the roads and the way people drive here,
you wouldn't drive fast here either.
i think i had mine over 90 in california before i drove it home.
on top of that, we still have cows, burrows, goats and wild horses crossing the roads here.
they would do quite a bit of damage at 95MPH!!!!
