I couldn't firgure out a good place or method for locating the HiLift, so I bolted it on.

I used two, 3"x 1/2" grade 8 bolts with shoulders, lock washers and Nylock nuts.

Drilled a 1/2" hole all the way through the carrier and attached the bolts as seen in the pic above.

I then mounted the HiLift on the bolts and used one Nylock nut on one side. I didn't tighten it all the way.

When it's time to go wheeling I'll just pull the Nylock and replace it with another wingnut.

On the otherside I used a wingnut.

The problem with mounting the jack back here is you will hit the tailgate when you lower it.

So now if I open the tailgate, I remove the wingnut and swing the jack down out of the way.

Finished product.

One last thing, the bolt holes MUST be precise. You can't bend anything to fit. I found out the hard way.

Nice work, <STRIKE>Macgyver</STRIKE> Ken. Very clever design!

I wanted the 60", but I'd have nowhere to put that monster.

I was going to mount mine like yours, but the tire is in the way. That is going to change, I promise that.

I like the little padlocks. Instead I ran a 3ft cable lock around the back of the tire carrier and through a couple of jack holes.

For drilling through the metal I used a Black and Decker brad point 1/2" bit on a cordless drill. I couldn't believe the cordless worked better than the air drill. Must be a torque thing because the cordless went through it like butta'.

Oh, isn't our jack nice and shiney.

Do you guys also carry a base for the jack of some sort? If so where?

Yes, in a Trail Duty gear bag in the bed of the truck.

CslRkH2 01-21-2006 12:58 AM

How big is the base you use?

I really like the install Ken...but with the GOBI ladder I don't think it would work for me. I'm going to have to find something soon...[cough] hi-lift mount for the stealth rack[cough cough]

Hey has anyone heard from timgco in awhile??

You should get one of these... Handle Keeper

It's the one pictured here: http://www.hi-lift.com/products/offroadbase.htm Can't say that I ever measured it but I'd guess it to be 10 inches square.

Here is a link from Az Hog on mounting a Hi-Lift Jack on a SMA Tire Carrier, it will work for H1 & H2.

the web site is www.azhog.com

Look under Hummer Technical Information, and then look for Hi-Lift Jack Mounting for SMA Tire Carrier for H1 & H2.

I did the mount on my H2 and the cost for parts was right at $20.00

Mount it to your ladder.
