Hi All,

First, I love my H3 and am happy I bought it. However, the gas mileage is worse then what I was hoping for. I'm pretty much all city driving about 50-50 with air conditioning. I've had the vehicle for 3 months and racked up close to 1,000 miles, average mpg 11.5?

Is this what other city drivers are getting or am I low?

Ouch! You could drive an H2 with that mileage

From what I have seen posted the mileage will get better over the break-in period. I will keep my fingers crossed.

H3Lady 08-03-2005 04:55 PM

I think the millage will be a critical factor in the success of the H3. If GM would have made it like 19 city 24 hwy. they would sell 3 times more...This was my only concern about the H3. I have one now and love it, but my stomach is bit upset at fill up time.

wannabeH3 08-03-2005 05:16 PM

i agree mileage is pathetic, i got close to 15 mpg with my K&N and the cover off the airbox. with a real light foot... but usually average 13 or 14.. very lame

HummerNewbie 08-03-2005 05:23 PM

I sure hope it goes up. I would hate to give up my V8 SUV with more than enough power for an I5 with worse mileage.

Actually, since there is a Hummer wrapped around that I5, I guess I could deal with it

Georgemarc 08-03-2005 05:32 PM

As much as I would like to see better mileage, I can't complain when all the pluses of this vehicle are added.

H3 Hummer 08-03-2005 06:59 PM

I think that the 11.5 average is horrible. I had about the same about of millage and was driving up steep hills (Snoqualmie Pass) with the air conditioner on. I was late and was driving hard like 75-80 MPH. I still got about 15 - 16 MPG. I consistently get 17 MPG and I have some steep hills in my area, however I don't use the air conditioner that much in this 75 degree weather. The automatic (which I have) may be different then a standard but shouldn't be that much (even if you have a standard transmission).

H3 Hummer 08-03-2005 07:01 PM

1,000 miles in three months is not a lot of driving. Maybe you have a lot of starting the engine cold that is eating up your gas. Or real short trips.

H3Lady 08-03-2005 07:09 PM

I went on a 200 mile all hwy trip and got 18+

cruise at 65 and no highter.

A heavy vehicle is bad in the city for stop and go and short trips.

Murph 08-03-2005 07:30 PM

I've about 1200 miles on mine (in less than a month!) and have averaged right at 14 mpg in mostly suburban (stop and go) traffic. I'm neither surprised nor disappointed with that.

17mpg??? where do you get your gas? are you using 87? i have never seen that good a number and i got about 2300 miles on it.. do you drive it fast? i mean i spent all last tank trying to barely use the pedal and going real slow on onramps and what not, and by just under a 1/4 tank i had like 230 miles on the tank when i filled up. my mileage sucks... and i got the 33's i think urs does too

dchou1107 08-03-2005 09:13 PM

i am currently about 17 miles per gallon

IS300_TRD 08-03-2005 09:24 PM

230 miles? man that doesn't sound good. How many gallons can the H3 contain? I'm still in the market for one.

Georgemarc 08-03-2005 09:36 PM

23 gallons......

i usually fill up at 1/4 tank

H3OH 08-03-2005 10:32 PM

I filled up and got 18.5 gallons at the pump. The tank holds 23. It was $40.75 to fill it up to 18.5, and I got 258 Miles out of the tank. That's almost 14 MPG.

Now, with that in mind, that was several starts and stops (moving stuff around in the garage), picking up mail at the mailbox, showing my friends the new car, etc. Which was a lot of starts and stops! Most of this was city driving, with 1 minor highway run (about 20 miles). I could have easily pulled over 300 miles out of the tank, but wanted to fill up as I was approaching the E mark.

I am not complaining though! It's better than what I was thinking it would be, and according to my friend, he's getting like 10 MPG on his Ford F150!

I have about 1000 miles on my new H3 and have kept track of MPG for the last 3 fill-ups. My recordings are as follows:

15.175 mpg
15.881 mpg
15.163 mpg

This is city driving around the burbs in Denver. Each time I filled up when the tank was about half full. My previous vehicle was a Nissan Pathfinder with a 3.5L V-6 and it averaged about 16-18 mpg.

It would be nice if the H3 got better MPG. Maybe it will improve in time and after my first oil change (switch to synthetic) and K&N filter. 17 mpg would be nice.

tacocat 08-04-2005 01:53 PM

These numbers don't seem to far off from my 6-cyl Jeep Grand Cherokee. It averages 16.5 with mostly freeway speeds.
