Shackle lift and quick disconnects
2 Attachment(s)
So here?s my take on the shackle lift and quick disconnects. I?ve been tracking down and putting together a list of the parts for awhile. Finally got everything and put it on this afternoon. Here?s what I used:
Shackles ? Warrior YJ rear 1.25? lift, part #WAR123 ? www.warriorproducts.com These are 6" hole-to-hole, about 2.5" longer than stock. You can see how much beefier these are than the stockers. I actually bent one of the stock shackles at some point. Didn?t even notice until I took them off. ![]() ![]() Bar Pin Eliminators ? Rocky Road Outfitters - http://www.rocky-road.com/zjbarpin.html I wanted to match the rear shocks to the front but Bilstein doesn?t make the 5125 with a barpin. The BPE also moves the mounting point down about 1? to compensate for the shackle lift. Attachment 42192 Swaybar Disconnects ? JKS Quicker Disconnects, WJ 0? lift front, part #3100 - http://store.jksmfg.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=QRDISC&Store_Code=JKS01&Catego ry_Code=Swaybar_Disconnects You can adjust the length on these and at their shortest are around 1? longer than the OEM endlinks. Attachment 42193 Shocks ? Bilstein 5125, part #BE56248H5 - http://www.bilstein.com/offroad_5125.php These have 10? of travel and are valved the same as the Cognito/Bilstein front shocks. |
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
The install on all of this is pretty straightforward so I?m not going to bother going through all the steps. But here?s a couple shots of everything installed.

Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Nicely done Sir! Looks great! How does it perform with the bilsteins in the rear?
|
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Very nice Sewie. Thanks for sharing :beerchug:
Hey who said we could'nt find parts for the H3? Is the 11 degree swivle of the connectors enough? I remember IPE needed washers because his connectors didn't have ball joints and because of this couldn't handle the angle without washers. Yours has some type of ball joint right? |
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Sure looks sturdy. Let us know how it feels after driving it for a couple days.

I think they'll be fine. They have spherical bushings and have a collar at one end for the offset. They bottom flares out maybe a couple degrees. If becomes a problem I can always grind down the collar to get the endlinks more vertical. They are also greasable, so that will help with wear. BTW, the stock ones weren't vertical either. They flared in at the bottom a couple degrees. |
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Looks great a very easily doable mod:beerchug: be sure to post on and off road feel and performance:excited:

Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Great take on Ipe's mod.. I like the BPE and JKS. Keep us posted on performance.:beerchug:

very nice sewie :beerchug:

Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Sewie, Any updates on your improved flex??? Did you have any problem with brakelines or ABS not being long enough for increased droop???
|
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Sewie,
Nice work and documentation. Kindly follow up with opinions...:beerchug: :beerchug: |
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Thanks for the writeup and pics. How are they holding up?
|
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
The ride is much better, on and off road. I haven't run with the swaybar disconnected yet (no need) but there's still a noticeable increase in flex with it connected. I didn't get any pics on the last trip (never bothered stopping to pose ;) ) but I'll try next time out.
Now I just gotta install the new t-bars and level it out again. :D |
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
I have the same disconnects. Copy pasted it from Sewie. They look great, work great and give you lots of flex even with them connected. My jack could not get the tires off the concrete. You must pull the the ABS wires from the plug in the fender wall. Otherwise the flex will break them. I noticed this when jacking up the rear tires.
I give Sewie a::perfect10s: |

Thanks. :D The ABS wires were one of the reasons I didn't bother to disco the swaybar on my last run. Did you reattach the cables to the fenderwall somehow? Or are they just dangling there? |
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
Wow! I just priced this out, and it is very inexpensive for what you get.
Bilstein front leveling shocks $170 for pair http://www.trailduty.com/product_inf...roducts_id=486 Bilstein rear shocks 5100 $140 for pair http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/product.cfm?id=15025 bar pin eliminators (for mounting rear shocks) $22 a pair http://www.rocky-road.com/zjbarpin.html Extended shackles $42 a pair http://www.jeep4x4center.com/popup.asp?number=WAR123 quick disconnects for rear sway bar $153 a pair http://store.jksmfg.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=QRDISC&Store_Code=JKS01&Catego ry_Code=Swaybar_Disconnects That is only $527 plus shipping! Seems like money well spent to level and improve rear articulation! This would be perfect if I wasn't in love with the fox shocks. :giggling: |
Re: Shackle lift and quick disconnects
how do you keep the sway bar up out of the way when it's disconected?
