Two New Parts from GM

SO I haven't been on the forum for a while, but thought a post of these two new items may be of interest to a few of you.

I had purchased, and had installed at the dealer the GM Performance Cat-Back exhaust syetem in March. I like the dual tail pipes and the muffler is much smaller than stock.

Ever since, I've been trying to decide on a New induction kit to augment the exhaust. Well I haven't looked that hard, but I recently stumbled across one while browsing through the GM Accessories Store website.
http://gmaccessoriesstore.com/index.php

http://gmaccessoriesstore.com/perfor...th=426_431_440

I decided to buy it along with the replacemnet Chrome Hood Louvers.
I'm not a big Chrome fan, but liked the look of having a few pieces here and there. It is a real easy install. Just pull up on the old, and press the new back into the same clip holes. 1-2-3.

Now the truck has a chrome grill and hood louver, fuel door, and I replaced the center caps of the alloy wheels with the chromed caps to give a bit of contrast to the wheel. Looks similar to the H3 logos on the doors. Everything else is the smoke grey and looks real good.

Okay, so the GM Performance induction kit. One of the main reasons I chose this one was the fact that it goes with the Exhaust System.

I installed it in about an hour. I haven't noticed a real difference but it does seem to make the motor smoother when accelerating. I always noticed a slight lag when stepping on the gas. I don't feel it now. At higher speeds and RPM, it feels like it gives a little more roar through the air filter but nothing obnoxious.

Interestingly though, I found the stock plastic induction box on top of the motor fairly large and seemingly like a waste of space. It covers the entire top of the motor for what it is does. However I didn't design the motor so it must be that size for a reason. Anyway, the top of the motor and the engine compartment in general look more clean now without it.

I have no pics yet, but they're coming.

That looks really good. Question on the top louver chrome. Do you get much glare on bright days?

No glare at all!
I thought the same thing, but because it is pitched forward on the hood, the only peice that shows is the rear edge and it has a rough area that faces the driver so it doesn't shine back at you.

Funny thing though, I noticed that when I am driving and the sun hits the right angle on the hood and grill, it reflects a bright light onto the street signs on the sides of the road.
It looks like my brights are on from the refective material being illuminated on the signs.

What are you kidding:eek:

The truck is too new, to take out and beat.
This is the cleanest off road vehicle ever.:giggling:
Actually, I don't have much off roading areas around my parts, and the few that are near, have so much over growth, that I wouldn't risk getting the body all scratched up.

It is as much a vehicle, as it is a collectable for me, so this one in particular will be driven with the mindset of keeping it looking near new.:OWNED:

If I was independently wealthy like some other folks, who had money to spend on toys, then this truck would be that.

Unfortunately, :violin: I waited fifteen years to be able to buy something I really wanted, and now I want to take care of it.

That's not to say that as time progresses, I might end up with an off-road toy that gets down and dirty.:twak:

Until then...

Looks good!! I saw the gm performance intake and wondered what it looked like installed. The K&N intake also removes the air box by the throttle body, but does not have a fully enclosed air box. Those exhaust tips are sitting pretty low, looks like they would get beat up off road.

The sound in the cab is definate. I know they are there. But since it is usaully just me, I don't mind. Hower, my wife says it sounds like a need a muffler. I tell her if she doesn't like it, then she can meet me at our destination in her car.

I have no time for a women who can't accept what I appreciate.:twak:

As for the departure angle. Well it is pretty easy to see that I loose it with this particular Mod. Like I mentined before, it isn't going to go off road, so the pipes are no big issue on this truck.

Is there a support bracket for the chrome tube of the intake?

Can you describe the exhaust sound? deeper, rumble, V-8??

Thanks!!

The factory air filter box remains.
The Filter and box Cover are replaced.
The air induction tube, attaches to the mass air flow sensor using a synthetic type of tubing that is supplied with the kit and two hose clamps. It is polished aluminum and connects back up to the throttle body, using the existing rubber throttle tube that is used with the air induction box. No bracket needed. Also, there is a piece of small rubber tubing that needs to be cut and run between the tube and the rocker arm cover in the rear for PCV.

The factory box has the mass air flow sensor as part of it's design so there is no need to do anything there.

Throaty? Well not on the intake; The exhaust is somewhat, but not V8. The Air intake seems to give the motor a smoother start when I step on the gas.
Somewhere I remember hearing a sound file on the exhaust.

No real felt difference in power. Maybe a bit, but it is hard to tell.
I drove the '07, with the new 3.7L motor, and couldn't really tell the difference of 22 HP either.
Worth it? Well I like the look so for me, yes. Others? There choice.

Do you get any rattle sounds from the exhaust, mainly wondering about passenger side without exhaust hanger

Lex_Ordo 09-22-2007 03:20 AM

Re: Two New Parts from GM

No rattle. The exhaust replaces the factory system from the Cat back, and it is attached at the same hanger points. No problems and very firm.
