Has anyone looked at the fuel economy on the window stickers on an 08?
I am really curious how the extra HP and the 6 speed tranny help. It would be nice to have alot more power and at least the same fuel economy, but is should be a good bit better with the new trans.

With the type of rig we are driving the fuel economy you get up front is mostly what you will have. It is a little different when you are looking at break in on ligt cars etc. Mostly though unlike old days the material used today does not really have a break in. I have looked at it with several year models with various owners just in casual convo. All have said the same what you get is what you have unless you mkae some equip. mods to help.
It does seem to me though that the 6 speed should help at freeway miles but, i have not heard much feedback on that. The guy that put the 3/4 ton Silverado transfer and manual tranny in his H2 has the right idea on fuel usage conserved but, when he wants to make good use of the power he will come out on top. If not trailing all the time i would regear the tranny to get rid of the granny low as well as shift all gears some. Hope it does improve but, if it were to be allot better it would be on the sticker. TAZ |

Hey NJ H2,
Trying to work on shorter answers. Some questions will still need TAZ lecture H2 101. TAZ |

Dont forget it has the 6 speed plus displacement on demand.

The DOD got canned. You can thank the Escalade's problems for that. |

Typically a vehicle depending on outside factors which would mean a rig for rig comparison having a larger displacement engine in one versus the other could improve MPG in larger engine. The theroy being the larger engine gets dead weight etc. to cruising speed quicker at which time that will be the best MPG band for the rig with less laboring and hold that speed easier.
My best example was with a new 1977 solid black Pontiac Gran Prix Hurst/Olds T-top edition that had the 400CID with twin quadrajet carbs. I was stunned on a long trip once that even though the MPH was 55MPH limit I got 22MPG doing 75MPH plus versus when the X would drive it at 60MPH tops. The engine just seem to handle the weight better at higher speed due to more momentum for uphill etc. Not sure the reasons but, the jewel of a ride never failed to do better MPG at high speed and RPM's. Well did a lousy talk on kinectic energy etc. but, most of you I'm sure understand better what I'm getting at better than i could say it. TAZ |
