OEM HORN
Does anyone happen to know the decibel specs for the oem Hummer h2 horn? The manual is lacking on horn info other than where it is located..I want to replace them, but not with air horns. They about give me a heart attack..Ones I am looking at are PIAA 500hz and 600 hz 115 decibel reading..They are meant to replace the existing ones..Thanks, Da BRUTE

Re: OEM HORN
i dont know the spec. but i do know sound and 115db is loud.
if i was to guess most air horns are in the 125-135 range. and the stock in the 55-65 range. hope that helps |
Re: OEM HORN
Most definitely helps..I just ordered the PIAA sports horn. Wanted something louder, but not an air horn and these seem to fit the bill.

Re: OEM HORN
are you talking about the stock horns. if so they are right behind the grill. Just raise the hood and there they are. there should be one on each side. I disconnected mine and have air horns now.

Re: OEM HORN
When you disconnected them, Did you hook them up to a solenoid switch too allow the air horns too work, or are the air horns seperate from the steering wheel application?
Thanks |
Re: OEM HORN
Origanaly i had my stock horn and air horn all blowing at the same time, but that blew a fuse real quick. The way i have it is i taped into the wire with one of those clamps and just pulled the plugs from the stock horns. It doesnt sound the greatest when you sitting inside because i mounted the air compressor under the hood close to the dash so you kinda hear a little noise from it, but from the outside it sounds much better.

Re: OEM HORN
After searching the engine compartment first, I did find them right where you said they were. Pretty cleverly hidden..How do they disconnect from the electrical connection? I don't want to just try and pull the connection apart for fear of breaking something..Thanks

Re: OEM HORN
at the light grey piece, should just slip right off. If needed i can get a pic.

Re: OEM HORN
Okay, whoever has installed this particular horn, post an audio file so we can hear what it sounds like!
DO NOW! |
Re: OEM HORN
I just got it today, so I will see if I can hook it up tomorrow..Disconnect sound easy enough..I'll give it a try..Thanks

1 Attachment(s)
Well, got the oem horn off and when I compare the two, they are totally different, so I called eautoworks and sent them pics. They are baffled so they called PIAA. Probably will have to send horns back. Not even close to an easy fit...

Yikes! Thats really strange, especially for a PIAA product! They must be for a jeep. You could rig the horn so that it works, but that is no plug and play item thats for sure. Another quality "Made In China" product! |
Re: OEM HORN
i wonder if they sold you the horns for an H3?
|
Re: OEM HORN
Part number specifically spells out h2, but your guess is as good as mine..Not sure what they were thinking when they said this was an easy fit..They are still working on it, but I told them if they couldn't give me a plug and play horn, that I didn't want it..So we will see what they come up with..

Re: OEM HORN
I'm getting a refund..Evidently PIAA didn't test it out first on an H2 to see if it would fit..Pretty lame if you ask me..:lame:
