Gobi
Anyone know a place to find a decent price on Gobi racks (with tire carrier) and rear ladders? Best I can find is right around 2K for the rack, and $400 for the ladder. Thanks in advance....Jamie

Re: Gobi
sounds like a pretty good price to me. You might find a used one for less.

Just checking. I'd like to purchase new if possible. Also this is a future purchase, gotta add other things first but just want to get a ball-park figure of what I'm looking at. |
Re: Gobi
is that with any lights?

No, no lights |
Re: Gobi
GOBI is awesome. Sturdy as all get out and their products have a quality look about them. Love it.
That is all.:) |

That's what I have heard as well. |
Re: Gobi
I bought one used (from ebay) about a year ago. The seller said it was only a year old and had the usual few scratches on it. When it arrived, it had major surface rust all over the place (the powercoating was peeling faster than a stripper in Surrey - Surrey is the hole of Vancouver). This is the cheapest piece of **** powercoated item I have ever seen. After my purchase, I've heard others say that Gobi is **** quality for their paint/powercoating. The rack may be sturdy and look good, but expect to get it professionally re-powercoated after a year or so.

Wow, you'd think for the price, they could at least paint the thing to last longer than a year. Maybe get the thing line-x'ed instead. Thanks for the heads up......Jamie |

Not sure where you got the rack from or what the previous owner did to it. But I have the 6ft rack with tire carrier. Have had it for roughly 2 yrs and have abused it. No signs of anything related to powder coating wearing off or anything else. Also know others with gobis and no issues. Maybe you just got a bad one:D |

I was trying to remember where i got my rack. REMEMBERED;) Trailwerks online. Its an ebay store. Heres the link. http://stores.ebay.com/TrailWerks-Online Email the company. I got my rack (6ft with tire carrier) for roughly 1,600 shipped. They have one with sunroof opening listed now for 1,999 or best offer. Also their ladders are 280 each. You can probably work a deal with them I am sure. Good luck |
Re: Gobi
I've had mine for about 3 years and yes the paint is going bad, but I have used and abused the crap out of it. Last week I put about 400 pounds of heavy timbers on it, I wouldn't recommend doing that but I needed to get them and it was my only choice. It held up fine. I will probably take it off in a month or two strip it down and repaint it. Most of the corrosion occurs near the welds so I'm guessing the weld are not cleaned well prior to painting. I have got a lot of use from the rack and have been quite happy. I got the rack without the tire carrier and highly recommend this option. Without the tire rack you can actually fit two tires plus plenty of other stuff and have much more flexability for what you can carry with the tires off the rack. If you get the tire mount version it may look cooler but is definitely not as functional.

Re: Gobi
I bought mine through Jason (Somo) from this site. At the time, the ladder was free!
I use it frequently and have not had any issues with it, so far. There's no visible rust but it's less than a year old. -Matt |
